    Happy New Year

Well Christmas is over and a new year approaches (and sadly so does school) time to look back upon the old year at the things we learned, for me it’s how to make a quick little web page, check it out.

    Happy New Year’s Eve!!

Hope everyone stays safe. We’re having a little allergy attack but we’re going to pop firecrackers as long as there’s still breath in our bodies. We went to see The Two Towers. It was awesome.

Taylor and Jimmie were singing this song in the car today. Here’s an MP3 of Slaid Cleeves singing it live on the radio on KGSR in Austin. I always think of Grace and Evan during the “I’ve been chasing grace” line. The live cornet solo is very brave. Here’s to a brave new year with lots of winning hands.

    Holy Toledo!

You can make money with fireworks? I always lose $50 every time I take the boys to Alamo Fireworks.

My dad (who is my mom’s manager) has gotten her 2nd book listed on Amazon and into Borders, which is a big deal and was a huge feat for a start-up publisher with only one book in their catalog…

Click the cover to see the listing.

    thanks!

Spent the day working on Glenn’s and my new site.

I love that photo of little Glenn playing the ukulele.

In every photo of me from that age, I’m striking what I perceive to be a supermodel pose, one hand one my head, one hand on my hip….

Unlike last time, there weren’t even any cedar logs in that fire!

An enjoyable “to-do” without a doubt - a great finale for 2003. People were still coming in at 1:00 in the morning with trays of food. It was still going on when Jimmie and I crashed. Mitch, Austin and Taylor were up until 4:30 am. We came prepared to spend the night and Mitch woke us up with 25 Blanco Cafe breakfast tacos and 5 pots of coffee. We had a wonderful morning - Mitch and Hillary are most excellent hosts. We spent the morning with them and Tom and Becky. I thought that the audience for the folk music was the best ever. Then the 50 person White Elephant present exchange free-for-all caught everybody by surprise and was crazy. I think it was 110 decibels sustained in there for an hour. Renee and Hillary seemed to have the best time of all.

It was such a great party! Sorry we had to bail - hopefully we’ll have the next one sans Mountain Cedar and Whipple’s flame worship!

    The lowdown on the hoedowns:

The Swindles are playing at Casbeers tonight. Sounds like most families are bringing their kids so please bring yours. They serve food (enchiladas/hamburgers) for those that want to come early, eat and claim tables. It’s small so it might be smart to stake out a spot early - Mitch will start at nine. Casbeers is on Blanco, south of Hildebrand. Here’s a map. Hardly any different than the map to Mitch’s place.

The big party is at Mitch and Hillary’s on Saturday starting at 7:00. They are at 909 Mullberry. Please bring a covered dish and wine, beer or whatever. The Kidwells will be at both events and we’ll be celebrating their visit to Texas.

    It’s after Midnight…..

Christmas 2003 has come and gone. Since even before the kids were born, we always see Jimmie’s side of the family on Christmas Day. We had a great time with Aunt Esther and Uncle Jimmie. We missed Jenny but we saw Rusty. Uncle Jimmie looks good. Saw Pat and Ken both there and at dinner at Sissy and Harold’s. Mitch, Hillary, Winona and Tiffany were there. Everyone got to digging through Dallas Webb’s old photos and telling stories.

The boys are out there shooting holes in their old Power Rangers collectible cards. And I thought that the $2.98 a pack that added up to $500 had been a waste of money!!

And now for something completely different

For some reason, I was readingChevy Chase’s bio on IMDB and found this nugget: “Was the drummer for what he called ‘a bad jazz band.’ That band became Steely Dan.”

    Christmas Eve 2003

We had the Whipple side of the family over for our annual party and it was great. Afterwards, the boys tried to put themselves to bed early but they’re too excited. I can still hear them up in there. It’s midnight and we have all the presents under the tree - much earlier than usual. The boys are older now and instead of having a spread of unwrapped stuff from Santa, it’s all wrapped in boxes from Mom and Dad. Except Jimmie still wrote Santa on some. Evan has had the lowdown on that whole deal for quite a while but we’re weaning ourselves off of it.

We’re in the final stretch to another Christmas morning.

    Merry Merry!

We watch it every Christmas. This year Jimmie bought us the DVD of “It’s A Wonderful Life” and we’re all sitting around the TV, wrapping presents. I sure mean it, there isn’t another movie ever made that’s even close to being as good.

A couple of Christmas Cards came back for one reason or another (from no known address to old addresses all the way up to failing to put a stamp on). If you didn’t get yours, then, well…. here it is!!

Credits: Our photographer for the front of the card is one 10 year old (9 at the time) Grace Obregon. And the ribbon/Christmas ball background is from Taylor’s collection that he was sharing earlier on the blog.
