After Beaver Cleaver realized he couldn’t get rich discovering uranium in Nevada and after the DG-7 fell out of fashion as the must have mantle piece for your family’s bomb shelter, this is what they had to go back to making. Dectron

David, we should take your Geiger Counter down to Kennedy, Tx. There’s old uranium mines there.

    John,
You will love this. While you hippie grasshoppers have been out fiddling all night as winter approaches, we paranoid ant types have been stocking up on Homeland Security staples like the “Detectron DG-7 Gamma radiation detector” (1950′ish Geiger counter)! Bring on the terrorists! I will be able to tell you if a nuclear device has been detonated in your back yard! Here is the link to the page that tells the history of this amazing scientific instrument.
    Your ever vigilant friend, David

We sure had a great time. It’s been a long time since we sat around the campfire singing until 4:30 in the morning.
I shot some cool video - here are a couple of frame captures.

Woodzie Update: T Minus 19 Hours And Counting

We have a house completely full of 10 year old boys spending the night for “stage one” of Evan’s birthday. Six large pizzas have been eaten. They’ve been back and forth between the pool and the trampoline for 5 hours now and beside some minor lacerations, they’re having a world class time. It was their request that Jimmie rent all the Terminator movies and after this massive game of tag that Taylor is leading, that big screen movie marathon is coming up next. Evan’s happy.

As far as the Woodzie - the weather’s going to be perfect. We have the two flatbed trailers in position for the stage. Three levels. Looks great. We couldn’t get 450 feet of power distribution feeder cable so I’m picking up a generator. Lynne is coming early with Glenn’s PA. Kim and Chris are going to get here sometime after 1:00 to setup the PA and recording gear. Renee is also going to come early and help setup. Mitch and Hillary are coming but the rest of the Swindles are probably not. The Levan Family Band is coming and Nikko is bringing his drums. Mike Grothues may come and bring some members of Heyoka for a jam (that way I’ll get to spend some quality time with the sheriff). I’m concerned that we don’t have congas and fear a letter of demerit from the International Woodzie Brotherhood.

Renee was up here helping to organize this afternoon. The most important accomplishment is that we decided every Woodzie should have a keg. So we’re going to spend the $90 for one and put a donation jar out. Did you know that you can get kegs from the layaway department at Walmart? I shit you not. But still please remind people that you have invited to bring food and drinks so that we don’t run out.

Anyway, it’s looking like everything is coming together very nicely. We’re looking forward to seeing YOU.

    Stargazers! Mercury alert.

This bottom picture is the spot where the stage will be. The ridge drops off there and the 1/4 acre pond is visible through the trees. Behind the big tree (behind the stage) there’s another drop off down to a really nice, rocky dry creek. We’ve marked off some comfortable campsites in the two park like acres that face the stage. We have the bonfire stack started down by the pond and it’ll reflect on the water. It looks like the weather is going to be really nice for camping. We still need somebody with a set of congas so please keep spreading the word.

The Nature Conservancy has an opportunity that’s easy to take part in and helps recycling and rain forests.

“It is estimated that nearly 1 billion people worldwide own at least one cell phone. The wave of the future is here…but what impact does this have on the future environment? Cell phones contain toxic materials—including mercury, cadmium and lead—that can lead to contaminated water and air when discarded in landfills. What can you do to help? A recycling partnership developed by RedJellyfish.com and Collective Good enables you to download a free shipping label and send in your used phone(s). Collective Good purchases the returned phones from RedJellyfish.com and either reconditions the phones for resale in developing countries or recycles the phones’ plastic and metal components. RedJellyfish.com then directs all proceeds to the Conservancy’s Adopt-an-Acre program. Each phone received translates into the purchase and protection of 500 square feet of rainforest in Chile’s Valdivian Forest. “

CD Baby offers a digital distribution program, where albums on CD Baby will be available for purchase from digital download services like Napster, iTunes, AudioLunchbox, etc. It’s been “coming soon” for a really long time, and it’s finally starting to trickle down. In my weekly ego-surfing seesion (searching for our names, looking for new reviews, etc.), I came across this:

NetMusic: Glenn Allan and Kim Mackenzie - Paradise Texas - for whater reason, we’re listed as alt-rock.

But it’s a pretty cool deal. Basically, CD Baby pays us 94% of whatever the download services pay them. In essence, we end up getting 50-60 cents per song, depending on the service. I don’t know how else a little indy label like us would get into most of these sites. We’ll see how many others we show up on.

We had a great time at Riley’s last night.

Here’s an couple of MP3s. I know they’ll stream over broadband, I hope they will over dailup. Forever, For Always, For Certain.

Here’s our song for Renne and Randy.

I love that little Archos MP3 Jukebox. I just laid it down right in front of one of Glenn’s PA speakers, hit record and it writes it to the hard drive. If anybody ever wants to record themselves at one of the parties, remind me and I’ll set it down and push the button for you. Because it’s recording directly to MP3 on an internal 20 gig drive, it can record for hours. Amazon.c
