    What a great trip!!

The fact that the weather was perfect - sunny but not too hot - is an example of why it’s sometimes best to just plow on ahead. We almost cancelled what turned out to be an incredible weekend. It’s ironic that if we had stayed, we would have been stuck here in the middle of a bunch of nasty rain and flooding.

I just got Slaid Cleaves’ schedule. Are we still talking about going to the River Pub for the 4th? Sounds like a great plan…

I’m going to try to drag my parents out, too, so you can finally all meet them. It’s hard to get my dad out of the house, so we’ll see.

called to say that, unless it’s raining heavily on Monday, they’re coming Monday, Monday night and Tuesday. Mother, Deirdre, Jonnah and Grace still plan on forging ahead, leaving from S.A. in the morning. We think that Sissy and Harold already have their RV at the beach. I think Winona went with them. Saturday night may be stormy so those that can get Monday off might best consider coming early Sunday and leaving late Monday to catch the best chance of good weather. I guess everyone is seeing basically the same weather reports that Jimmie is. They say it’ll probably be very rainy Saturday then get better Sunday and be pretty nice on Monday and Tuesday. We’re excited about it.
Again, our cell numbers are 210-722-6522, 830-832-3423 and Casey’s is 830-832-2112 and our mobile phones usually work good down there.

We’re going to head down in the morning. I mentioned a report from Raymond in a comment below but that came through Gavin and it was a couple of days old. I talked to Raymond this morning and he said whereas the National Weather Service shows it raining down there, it’s actually beautiful with clear skies and no wind. Might pour tomorrow, I don’t know, but I think weatherman and stock brokers are cut from the same cloth. Those of you that were planning to come Saturday, come on down if you want to. Call, post or email to let us know. We’ll be leaving here early Saturday morning.

If you want to look up a mapquest or yahoo map, the address is 905 Cornwall.

Through CD Baby’s Digital Distribution program, Glenn and I are now available on iTunes - probably the best online music purchase service (I think) because it’s integrated with an MP3 player and you can listen to samples and buy songs on an account all from the same program. PCs can use it too!

    Roots and Branches

Jimmie won tickets from the radio station to be in the small audience. Bonnie Priest used to win stuff from KXEL all the time, now it’s Jimmie and KNBT. They’re going to get wise to her here pretty soon. Anyway, we were there Tuesday at Ray Wylie Hubbard’s Roots and Branches live broadcast. Did any of yall hear it? We didn’t know what to expect from the Greencards but they were incredible. Nickle Creek level of musicianship. It’s a trio who sing with really nice three part harmony and play without 6 string guitar, just mandolin, fiddle and bass which gives them kind of an wide open bluegrass sound on top of thumping bass. The female bass player plays an old Dan Electro bass - not a trendy reissue but one that looks like she’s had forever and plays it because she likes it. She was the bomb. We had a great time.

As soon as that was set to end, The Swindles were going to start playing at Gruene Hall with Two Tons Of Steel so we had a nice little chit-chat with Matson and Ray Wylie and they mentioned The Swindles on the air 4 or 5 times. That’s hard to get so we were pleased. It put The Swindles in Matson’s mind. We then went over and watched Mitch play and visited with Hillary. Mitch was great and the place was jammed packed.

Lynne, I talked to Jim Waller and he gave yall’s and Mitch’s package to his brother-in-law, Fred Stockwell, who is the General Manager of the station. Matson said he hadn’t seen it yet but he earnstly said that he’d be on the lookout. There were only 8 or 9 people other winners and they split so Jimmie and I and Ray Wylie and Matson stood around and talked about Freddy King’s “Hideaway” for a while and Ray said he was putting us on his permanent guest list so I might be able to walk Glenn in there and get him some face time with Matson after a broadcast. Like Jimmie said, Matson never once played Darden Smith until after he made a good impression on Roots and Branches last year. Everybody’s got to do their part.

I ran across a crazy link page this morning.

This site has a very interesting take on traffic jams. Do you think he’s right?

This is specially for Casey and Evan - they love the movie Veritgo.

Bob Dylan’s alien abduction. Totally explains his odd behavior. Tin foil blocks mind reading. And remember, since you should trust no one, always construct your AFDB yourself to avoid the risk of subversion and mental enslavement. Getting a message into the afterlife. The guy gives the money to the dying person or charity which is cool. Famous last words. Somebody needs to give these guys a clue. Face hair from hell. Time travel money scheme. Oopps, too late. Help in the fight against using duck actors in dangerous, unnatural, and degrading situations.

And finally, this one is not odd: Go to the bottom of the page and you can stream hour long recordings of old top 40 radio broadcasts. The ads and the station ID jingles are a trip back in time.

    And Dad Lovers.
We’ll celebrate Your Day at our house on Sunday.
    Start at two with bar-b-que
Followed by hootin’ and hollerin’, pickin’ and swimmin’
Ending up with an outdoor flick on the big big screen (tba), visible from the pool.

Bring a side dish (we’ll cook fish and chicken, beans and taters) or dessert.
Also: music making apparatti, pool floats, beer, etc.
There are bass in the pond if you want to fish (we’ve got gear). Also paddleboats if you want to ruin the fishing for a while.

Please let us know if you can come!
    Looking forward to it!

I found the perfect solid tubes. If you have trouble keeping a bike going, these things really help. We haven’t been able to keep bikes going because, when presented with the slightest opportunity, the air in the tire will run away from home.

so I went to Norman Oaklahoma this weekend had a great time. 420 miles one way. well on my way back the front grill hood ornament thing ( you know the silver thing that has the H in the middle) flew off my brand new Honda Civic somewhere between Fort Worth and Waco. So I’m thinking crap this is going to cost me so I decide to turn around and look for the thing. So after driving forever to do the turn around I get back to where it is laying on the side of the highway in the grassy median. So I carefully park in the median turn on my hazard and start walking down the highway looking for it. Bad idea. Every other damn guy on the highway was stopping trying to help me. I was like go away. It was realy bugging me. I didn’t need any help and all they were doing was making me uncomfortable. So I gave up and decided getting hassled and honked at wasn’t worth my front piece. So I got back in my car and continued back on home.

But not one of these. We found some GREAT hike and bike trails that go all along the edge of the bay. I was searching for these rare solid inner tubes for Evan’s bike. They’re $15,000. Not the inner tubes (they’re $20), the bicycle built for three. Did you have any idea that people made bikes that cost $15,000?

On the 4th of July. Heck, there’s a whole festival (Summerfest, it’s called). Although most of the links don’t have info yet, they probably will. Maybe we could tube, picnic, see Slaid Cleaves and view the ‘rocket’s red glare and bombs bursting in air’
There’s even an Illuminated River Parade (whatever that means - floats with lights? Electric Eels?)
Remember John - change is good!
