A young man named John received a parrot as a gift. The parrot had a bad attitude and an even worse vocabulary. Every word out of the bird’s mouth was rude, obnoxious and laced with profanity.

John tried and tried to change the bird’s attitude by consistently saying only polite words, playing soft music and anything else he could think of to “clean up” the bird’s vocabulary. Finally, John was fed up and he yelled at the parrot. The parrot yelled back. John shook the parrot and the parrot got angrier and even ruder. John, in desperation, threw up his hand, grabbed the bird and put him in the freezer.

For a few minutes the parrot squawked and kicked and screamed. Then suddenly there was total quiet. Not a peep was heard for over a minute. Fearing that he’d hurt the parrot, John quickly opened the door to the freezer.

The parrot calmly stepped out onto John’s outstretched arms and said “I believe I may have offended you with my rude language and actions I’m sincerely remorseful for my inappropriate transgressions and I fully intend to do everything I can to correct my rude and unforgivable behavior.”

John was stunned at the change in the bird’s attitude.

As he was about to ask the parrot what had made such a dramatic change in his behavior, the bird continued, “May I ask what the turkey did?”

    HAPPY (post) THANKSGIVING!

And “Don’t be Evil”. That’s what someone shouted from a passing car as I took this picture this afternoon. We’re at the Clear Channel world headquarters on Basse Rd., not too far from my house. Remember, you saw this breaking news first here on the blog ! It all felt so ’60’s.

This is a great site with lots of bands. Nude As The News
I still think this looks good. The Orchard
If you’re not using this, you should. It’s an easy download. Google Toolbar
“Due to many factors”. Classic. Tuskbuster
This is bad thinking. In flow chart form. Should I rip this?
For Kim and Maggie. Stamp Yourself Silly
I’m not endorsing this view but here it is. ASCAP and BMI - Protectors or Thieves?
I’d love to see this movie. The content in the site is GREAT. Lightning In A Bottle
For Jimmie. Maps Out The Ying Yang.

And finally, this would be a great topic for discussion. Used CD Royalties. When you buy a used CD, in what ways is it different for the artist than when someone steals it off of Kazaa? Isn’t it the same thing only a little slower?

Kids sue Pink Floyd over royalties

From David Priest: “This is a great story, but it seems like they would have more than $378 coming to them after 25 years. If “pennies” is taken for it’s least possible whole value of “2″, they are assuming only 18,900 plays since 1979? That’s 756 plays per year, or 2.07 per day. So does this mean only the BBC plays and pays?

And 378 X 24 kids means Mr. Pink (which one’s Pink?) may take a $9,072 hit from outa the past. It’s called “riding the gravy traaaaaiiiiinnnnnn.”

I wonder how Mick and the boys handled their deal with the chorus in “You can’t always get what you want?”

(This is what comes of reading the news with 4 cups of coffee and a slice of pecan pie in my system.)”

    The Island

Dad brought me a bunch of old photos of Uncle Bill and this one blows my mind. This is at the island on the Comal river here in New Braunfels. Some people know the magic of that place but most don’t. It’s an age gone by now. My grandparents went there on a date. My mother and father went there on a date. Jimmie and I went there on our first date. My dad and Raymond and Bill learned to swim there, so did I and so did each of my kids. The tall kid is my Dad, next to him is Raymond then Bill.
It’s 1951 and my Dad is just a little kid. Five years later, I was on that island for the first time. People always ask me if I miss the island. This photo makes me miss the island.

Click here. With the new baby and all, the Thanksgiving gathering was a little smaller than in previous years. Very understandable concern for a cold and flu germ breathing crowd. In adjustment, each person tripled their calorie intake to get the job done.

    Holiday River Parade

Glenn and I will be playing at this year’s Holiday River Parade. We’ll be at Arneson Theater in La Villita for a free show from 3:15 to 4:45, then an admission show from 5:00 to 6:45, leading up to the parade and holiday lighting kickoff at 7:00. If you can’t make it down, they’ll be broadcasting the whole parade on the WB starting at 7:00 (hopefully they’ll show some flashbacks of us, since we’re playing where the news crews broadcast from) or look for us on the local SA news tonight.

    Tejas Mass Media Day

    November 24th, 2004 @ 22:57
    Posted by: John

We had a huge day at the studio yesterday. I was up for 40 hours and am just now coming back to life. Sort of.

Here’s part of the press release: “We promote to media across the country everyday but Mass Media Day is an additional blast of coverage for our artists right before the holidays. In a scheduling matrix over thirty pages long, we had artists moving from room to room, phone to phone throughout the day. With over three hundred on air interviews completed, Tejas dominated Tejano media across the country for eight straight hours.”

AND everybody got a taco and a beer.

Uncle Bill and Mike Moody in 1963

    November 21st, 2004 @ 21:25
    Posted by: John

Bill is, of course, in the straw beach hat. Bill and his cousin Mike were about the same age and great friends. The Whipples had the cool house on the Comal River and The Moody’s had the cool house on the bay in Corpus. This is on Padre Island back when nobody was there. Mike’s an attorney in Philadelphia and emailed this photo this afternoon. He’s hoping to come to the services. The Express-News called me this morning and they’re going to do a small news piece on Bill in tomorrow’s paper. I started a webpage here. I’m collecting the photographs now so if anyone has any, please get them to me.

    Blogger’s comment feature

I really should be cleaning the house instead of testing blogger’s comment feature.

My short assessment - I hate it. I like Haloscan’s better. So I’m not sure what the solution is. If you go to the test blog, my comments have some of the problems I’ve found. Try it, leave me some comments, see what you think.

I also added a search bar to my test blog. But I guess it’s powered by Google and doesn’t work until Google has actually crawled and cached the page. So it doesn’t do squat right now.

    Back to cleaning…
