I just watched a show on the Discovery Channel about guys that lasso icebergs to keep them out of shipping lanes and away from oil rigs (actually, they use nets). Unbelievable.
If they can’t move the berg they have to move the rig.
Sometimes the ice chunks are too small (like dump truck size) so they turn the boat backwards and push water against them with thier engines to move them.
What a world.
email2friendYou’re going to think I’m joking, but here goes.
We’d like to camp at the
Bandera Beverage Barn Campground
on the Medina River, in Bandera right off Highway 16.
It’s not well know so hardly anybody camps, but I’ve driven by there many times and thought it would be a great place to stay. It’s right on a beautiful stretch of clear river with lots of trees. Really close to SA and convenient to get to for everybody.
Their number is (830) 796-8153 (but reservations are not needed).
They have: covered pavilion, picnic tables, fishing, tubing. Convenience store on site, coin laundry, restrooms with showers. Pets on leash (puppies!). They charge $10 (per tent, I think, maybe per site). This is not a rowdy place cause people live there (in RVs)- it’s good for kids. They said it didn’t matter how many people we bring – they have plenty of room.
We’ll go in on Friday evening or Saturday morning and probably just stay until Sunday afternoon. Then Monday we’ll hang around our house and watch fireworks in Landa Park, maybe explode a few things ourselves.
Sounds like fun?
I thought so!
email2friend…can a ukulele player be a total rock star. But maybe that’ll change soon.
This kid, Jake Shimabukuru, is amazing on the uke. I got to do a show with his band on Maui once.
He was featured on NPR’s The World today because he’s touring with Jimmy Buffet. There are sound clips on the web site.

Jimmie wants to go to Chalk Bluff!
The cliffs look like this:
How clear is the water?
That’s how clear!
C’mon, let’s go!
(Unless it’s full, then let’s go to Krause Springs!)

As a boy, Harm hated having to kill baby male chicks. He moved away and never looked back. But fate, and his Father’s death conspired to make him one of the world’s best chicken killers.
His mother wasn’t surprised he returned. “It is in our blood, chickens,” she says. “We were born with chickens.”

The animation shows red squares for quakes in the last hour, then blue for yesterday and yellow for last week. The size of the square corresponds to the magnitude.

email2friendChris did a live recording of Rachel and Niko Laven on Sunday at the Cove. The kids, their dad on bass, Gil and his son on percussion/drums, Jana singing harmonies, and a whole bunch of special guests. Here are a couple samples of the rough mixes – it came out great.
email2friendwith me today and, among other things, we met with Parke Hedges and called Glenn to talk about Fred, the Americana radio promoter from Pittsburgh that helped work Mitch’s record. Evan is learning the entertainment business ropes.
Parke is starting to work his CD, here it is at Tower Records. It was done in our studios and I’ve been doing his graphics including the CD packaging. Remember, I posted the first draft of that magnifying glass logo on the blog a long time ago. Here’s the rough mockup of his site. I’m going to try to add some content and get it finished and migrated over to his host this week. If you’re interested in what a simple, easy to create bio, 8×10 publicity photo and a distributor one sheet can look like, they’re downloadable from the site. I advise all artists to do that. Save a stamp.
