to the Flea Market. Call us on our cell phones if anybody wants to meet us out there. But, more important, we just realized that Slaid Cleaves has a free show at Gruene Hall tonight which is always fun. Call us.

DVD Shrink will put the contents of a DVD on your hard drive so you can watch it from there. I think Renee used it to put a bunch of movies on her laptop so she could watch them without carrying the discs around. This new version says that it interfaces with Nero CD/DVD Burning software so you can make a copy of a DVD movie. I haven’t done it but I guess it works.

paper airplanes all the time as a kid? I think these guys are right, this does look like the best paper airplane in the world. The designs we folded never had any tail so they weren’t very stable. This one is awesome.

is still the #1 waterpark in the world…. so traffic sucks here on weekends. This live webcam is pretty cool. Here’s the surfing page. Check out the video. From this page, click on the stuff in the right hand column and you can see slideshows or movies of each ride.

What does that mean!?! “I’ll gladly pay you Tuesday for an audio stream today.” This is just the demo version we’re testing so all the features aren’t working and it’ll only play 10 seconds of each tune. This is a “skin”, meaning a graphic template, for the Wimpy player. A lot of these functions as shown in the manual should be in there somewhere. Notice how it has to reload with every page refresh? (The quickest way to refresh the page and see what I mean is to click on the Whippleworld header at the top). We may end up not embedding it on the page but having it open in it’s own window so that the songs play uninterupted.

What’s Wrong With Payola?: This is funny: “Spitzer says he was shocked, shocked!! to discover that commercial radio has programmers who act for reasons other than artistic worthiness. In the litigation release, he noted ‘our investigation shows that, contrary to listener expectations, songs are NOT selected for airplay based on artistic merit and popularity, air time is instead determined by undisclosed payoffs to radio stations and their employees.’” Well…. no shit Sherlock!

I was looking for some weird archival photos and video footage for a project. Here’s 4,000 panoramic photos, you can download uncompressed high res files big enough to print from. Here’s Corpus Christi Sept. 14, 1919.

There was an article in Mix Magazine recently about Joe Meek and the story behind the recording of Telestar by The Tornados. A search dug up this video which is classic. I wish that was in higher res.

Ever see Radar Men From The Moon? It was made for theaters in the early 50’s but they replayed it all the time on TV in the 60’s. Star Wars was based on Sci Fi cliffhanger charactors like good ‘ol Commando Cody. That’s a 56k dailup link, if you watch it give it time to get past the credits, it gets good. They have all kinds of full screen MPEG 2 files that you can download from that Archive.org site.

Vote for Kinky Friedman for guv of Tex.

    =
I love him because he has a ranch just for dogs, he writes good funny books, and he took Billy Joe Shaver on tour to help keep him alive after his wife and son died.
I don’t know that he’d be a good guv but he’s alright by me.
    And always entertaining.

Tent zippers can be made to move smoothly by running a pencil along the teeth (graphite lubricant).
Febreeze greatly improves the smell of a tent that had wet puppies sleeping in it for two nights.
If you close the zipper and then the teeth come apart it may be that the zipper pull is not tight enough. Clamp it snug with a pair of pliers and the zipper will stay intact.
Two very large German Shepherd puppies cannot be trusted alone in the yard with the tent set up.
Holes in the mesh screen can be patched on a home sewing machine.
    (I hope)

Well… David is enjoying a retreat in the Hill Country, Chandra hasn’t sent any kid pix this week so….. here’s some PUPPIES!! Loretta will jump on the float and let the pool filter flow take her for several laps around the pool. We’ll often look out the window and she”ll just be chillin’ on her little blue island.

    My Dad’s Retirement

We wanted to do something special for my Dad that showcased his career since he is retiring this week, so we decided to put up a billboard. The square footage is larger than Kim and I’s first apartment in Hawaii after we got married. If anybody is in the neighborhood this is on Blanco headed South just inside 1604 (just past Longhorn cafe) and will be up til at least August 5th.

are cool architects that have become a real force in San Antonio. Jimmie’s kept an eye on them for years. This is what made me want to post about them: Why not have a screen room over a Texas Hill Country creek? How cool is that?!

Lake/Flato created a 15-block master plan from the Alamo to the Riverwalk. When they were done they let these longhorns out on the street as a publicity deal. Puro San Antone.
