New Mexico, like Old Mexico… only Newer

Renee just called to say that they made it back to Silver City in a record 10 hours. A benefit of carpooling down here and back with another couple. They left this morning with four drivers driving in shifts nonstop and took food so they didn’t have to pull off the highway to eat. What they did about the other thing you usually have to stop for, I didn’t ask. Jimmie and I haven’t been out to visit them (although we’re dying to) because we’ve been whining, crying and just generally bellyaching about the two days driving out and two days back that it looks like it would take. They have totally debunked that. Renee suggests that Taylor and Casey could be the other pair of drivers this summer. I think that’ll work.

is offering a half off special. I just got through paying them $40 a couple of weeks ago for 2006. Oh well, maybe some of you need it. Hit that link and I’m pretty sure anyone can get a year for $19.95 if you do it between now and Saturday. All you need is the VirusScan which is the one at the far right. I used to use Norton but I like McAfee a lot better. You do have to go to the site from Explorer, not Firefox.

Renee, Randy and Taylor took these.

The little guy in the spidey shirt is my nephew Jonah and that’s my brother Russell and my Dad, John Sr. My mom and my sister Deirdre made the big Christmas Eve dinner and it was really great. I can’t remember the last holiday where I wasn’t bar-b-queing something. A turkey, a opossum… something. This year we got a MUCH APPRECIATED pampering.

spent the morning and early afternoon with us here. They’re heading back to Silver City, New Mexico in the morning. Renee and I were looking at photos in her camera and I told her I wanted to grab these two to show to friends to try to spark a tamale making party like this one she went to. So here, I’m showing it to friends. We’ve been talking about it for years but a picture is better than a thousand words. Let these photos tell you the plan.

just came over to open the last Christmas presents of the year. One of his presents was an enlargement of this photo that I’d never seen before. I just had to throw it in the scanner and put it up in honor of Uncle Bill who died this year. He’s to the right, I’m in the shorts. I don’t know that I owned a pair of shoes at that wonderful zenith of hippieness. We drove that VW across the country and back.

Hi Whippleworld: I just finished watching the video stream and I am still laughing about Baby David crawling full speed chasing the train-and then the precious Wickham girls right behind him. Looks like eveyone had a great day! Attached are a few photos including the 3 visiting kittens. Thanks for all the photos everyone is posting–keep it up–we love it!

Click on the image at the very top where it says Whippleworld and it’ll cause the site to refresh with a new piece of artwork each time. It’ll also give you 50 new photo thumbnails down the sidebar each time. There are more than 60 headers and 500 photos and growing all the time so you never know what you might see. It’s time now for New Year’s headers so please pitch in and make some. Here in a couple of days, we’ll go back down to all holiday headers. For the reason we do everything on this website. For the hell of it.

There’s a bunch of new video including one of Baby David chasing Harold’s electric train around the Christmas tree. Click on the A/V Player in the iPod over at the right to view them.

My sister Deirdre found this elaborately and very beautifully embroidered shirt for my wife Jimmie for Christmas and she asked me to take her photo in it so she could email it to DAP in thanks. It was one of those kind of grab the camera, over the shoulder shots and I didn’t think anything about it. It was mixed in with the Christmas photos that I was messing with tonight and when I saw it, I noticed how cool it is. She had a great Christmas this year. That’s Jimmie’s mama dog in the forward and the old 1800’s wagon wheel in the background. But most of all Jimmie loves red birds and everybody loves Jimmie.

here’s a special Christmas song for you. I think the old saying is misplaced, it’s drummers you can’t live with yet can’t live without. This is Ray Benson and Asleep At The Wheel out of Austin with their version of “The Little Drummer Boy”. Merry Christmas Everybody!!!

Associated Content is a cool site. Just people writing stuff and getting published online for all that happen upon it. This mention of Christmas Eve 1968 caught my attention. Whippleworld bets that Robert Heinlein wouldn’t be happy that no one’s been back to the moon since 1972.
