Corn Mushrooms Relish

“Mexico City: Our Corn Mushrooms Relish is one of the delights in the mexican kitchen. It’s a black mushroom with silver gray skin that grows in the ear of corn. It has a delicate and delicious flavor when cooked. You can use it to make soups, pasta and sauces, to fill up chicken, beef, pork and shellfish and to make crêpes, quesadillas, meat patties, etc.

Uses: Fill up a tortillas adding chihuahua cheese and fold them, then heat them over a comal or a frying-pan, until, cheese is melt. You can eat this dish with a hot chili sauce. ”

Makes the best quesadillas in the world, bar none.

Here’s some cool STUFF

We really enjoyed the wireless hotspot down in Rockport. Roadrunner is building a network of free WiFi that they call Speedzones. It’s just starting but there’s a couple of Jim’s Coffee Shops, a Black Eyed Pea restaurant, The Watering Hole Saloon, Broadway Brew House. I haven’t tried it you but if you have a Roadrunner account, I think you can carry your laptop in, log in with your user name and password and go.

Here’s a free video trading thing called “Fireant“. Great name. Here’s screencast tutorial on how to use it.

And here’s a MUCH better way to get images off of Google called Google Image Ripper. Loads all the images at their full size right on one page so you don’t have to go to each individual page. If you ever hunt for specific images off the web for any reason, try this and you’ll see why it’s cool. Set it to “large” and “many” and let it run in the background while you’re doing something else because it takes a little time. Put any word in the “query” box there at the top to try it.

It’s on.

psp portable playstation vs video iPod

January 6th, 2006 @ 21:56
Posted by: Evan

the main reason my psp is better than taylors ipod is because my screen is three times as big and widescreen.

2) it connnects to the internet with no wires 3) it plays Mp3, video AND real video games 4) it has headphones AND built in speakers. The only thing better is that taylors has 30 gigs and I have 1 gig.

ScreenCast

I had a conversation about screencasts with Deirdre this morning, she called because she read the reference to it on the blog. Her work involves information and training. My old buddy Carl Bennick discovered Screencam the first week it came out in something like ’93. We had this little company called Multimedia Design Group and he brought it to me. I said we don’t need that because Mitchell Markham just paid $11,000 for a gizmo for all of us to use to video the computer screen for our tutorials. Carl said, that’s a shame because this does it for $79. Turns out it did it sharper and cleaner. Anyway, that’s what’s (thatzwhatz) behind this “new” screencast branch of the podcast movement; cheap or free programs to make compressed video files to share what you know about specific tasks on the computer. I have a copy of Camtasia and I’m going to use it to make some quick and simple tutorials on Photoshop tasks, flickr, de-lico-us etc. In 2006 I think we should notch up the helpful information content of the blog. Here’s an example of one that Jon Udell made. See how simple yet cool it can be?

Everybody loves Hillary’s snake photos

The boys in particular have always been in awe. We saw some new, very cool ones pop up in the sidebar. Anyway… flickr makes it’s money by putting ads in THIER sidebar that match an interest based on the photo that’s being veiwed. It’s just funny that the ad is for snake boots. Captialism like everything else has it’s funny side, you have to grin and bear it.

The beauty and

the boots.

At least it’s not for boots made out of snake. Hillary, I guess Yahoo is hoping your friends and family will buy these boots now. If any of us come over to your house with new “camo” snake boots, you’ll know they hit their payday. :)

Doug Sahm with Cassell and Craig in the back

I want to compile some San Antonio music and release it. In talking about it, somebody told me about two CDs, this one that I found a track listing and cover for so I think it’s real. And another one called “Return To The Alamo” that urban legend says was for sale only at The Alamo (as in the actual Alamo) Gift Shop. I wonder if Mitch has ever seen them. While I was searching, I ran across this photo. Must be from the time Cassell and Craig were producing The Sir Douglas Quintet “Border Wave” CD in New York.

Casey and now Taylor are iPod converts.

This funny (I think) cartoon that I just found instantly reminded me of the day Evan and I went to The Apple Store in the fancy smancy mall out by Seaworld called The Shops At La Centera to buy Casey’s Shuffle armband and Nano “socks” (or was it the other way around) and Taylor’s new video iPod. The Apple Store was very… Apple-ly. Applelutely geekalicous. But check out this list of workshops that they have there. I can describe The Shops At La Centera in one short sentence: Women walking around with poodles wearing sweaters that matched theirs. Evan is so cool, he was just cracking up.

Know who’s getting a lot out of flickr?

Not Deirdre who promised to learn about it over the holidays! :) It’s Photo Mamma. Here’s one of her posts on Whippleworld. For the last year or more I’ve been clicking on new thumbnails when they appear in our Daily Zeitgeist. I’m always impressed by how she’s using flickr for not only the basic storing, viewing, slideshows etc. but for communicating with other photographers for advice and encouragement. Lots and lots of good amateur and pro photographers who will answer questions and share techniques. It’s just a really cool community. We need to start drawing those hot spots to include notes on our photos. Anyway, here’s what one of her public communications looks like. You can let the public comment or keep it to only people you choose as contacts. It’s getting cooler all the time.

Do people even know

Trip Photos

Taylor, Loretta and Evan kayaking in Little Bay. Loretta bailed after about 10 minutes. She’s all about chasing the ducks and seagulls. After she realized that the boys weren’t taking her to eat the ducks, her boating interest dipped to zero. Rockport’s one of the most famous winter birding sites in the world and there were a million tasty looking birds of every size and shape down there this weekend.

We walked down and fished off the T-Heads at the end of our street late last night and caught a bunch of little trout. Just sitting barefoot on the edge of the walkways dippin’ live shrimp in between the sailboats. Like Andy and Opie with cane poles down by the duckpond. We did a bunch of other, more serious fishing but this ended up being one of the most fun things we did.

We spent the mornings in the Java Cafe’s new free Internet access lounge. It’s a short walk from the house.

My Granddad kept this orange tree in a pot throughout the 1960′s. After he died in 1979, Raymond kept it. We transplanted it in the backyard of the house in Rockport and it had eight, big delicious oranges on it when we got down there Friday. So that’s Granddad with his Great Grandson.

Jimmie and Loretta on the beach at Mustang Island State Park. When you go in January, you have it pretty much to yourself. This photo looks cold but it wasn’t – Taylor was swimming. The weather was great everyday but I guess because it was unseasonably warm, we had fog roll in on us several times which would turn everything very dramatic and otherworldly. We tried to take pictures of it but couldn’t capture the wide and deep mood. Felt like a tall ghost ship was going to come sailing through at any minute. Then the Twilight Zone fog would suddenly roll out as unexpectedly as it rolled in and it’d be bright sunshine again.

We didn’t take too many photos. I did take four short videos that I just uploaded into the A/V player if you want to see them.

If you’ve never been down to the coast in the wintertime, you should go. No bugs, no heat, no crowds. It’s a really a great time to be down there.
