born 12 years ago today right here at the house. Wild man style. He’s a great person and we’re really proud of him. I’ve never known anyone else quite like him. He’s going to do some great things in this world.

Buck Owens, along with Merle Haggard, was the leader of the Bakersfield Sound, an twangy, electricified, rock-influenced interpretation of hardcore honky tonk that emerged in the ’60s. Owens was the first bonafide country star to emerge from Bakersfield, scoring a total of 15 consecutive number one hits in the mid-’60s.
