Art For The Day

February 5th, 2007 @ 21:30

tideart.jpg
London-based designer Stuart Haygarth knows how to turn mass amounts of trash into awe-inspiring treasure. With training in design and photography, Haygarth conceived of the Tide Chandelier while collecting debris that had washed up on the shores of the Kent coastline. The enormous light fixture, measuring nearly five feet in diameter, is composed of a cornucopia of clear plastic refuse, from water bottles to sunglasses.

The Tide Chandelier gets is name from its spherical shape, a reference to the moon, whose tidal pull creates the waves that wash up the debris. The mass of plastic objects hangs delicately from monofilament lines suspended from above by a wooden “platform.” Haygarth’s lighting designs are inspired by collections of “banal and overlooked” objects, which, when amassed in large quantities in clever arrangements, take on a new beauty and stunning visual impact.

    • Info : Please, resolve the addition below before post any new comment...
    • Pat : not only did our Saints win but it was the most watched television broadcast in history. «link» And The Who totally kicked butt. :)
    • John : yeah, that's where Russell, Renee and I grew up. Dad drives over there to check on it just about every day. It's a cool house, it just needs a restoration.
    • Casey : went to the Eisenhower Fleamarket today and off the highway I see this house and I go, hey I think that is my Grandad's house is that Glendora St. and sure enough it was ..... isn't that crazy that I can pick out a house that I've never been to? Anyway what a cool looking house and what a shame no one lives in it!
    • M. Peters : I see links to this blog from many music topic forums like this one «link»
    • John : Thank you. My sister and I did those. Keep clicking on the headers to view different ones. There's about 80.
    • M. Peters : you have more artistic headers than any site i've seen
    • John : for those visitors who come from Facebook or from a search to a single page, click on the header to go to the main blog page.
    • John : Art... it's all volunteers. Has nothing to do with trying to make music in the money biz. Come out and help with it. Sonny, come sing in a song circle one week - that's the way to a featured spot. Love to have you.
    • Sonny : I saw Havilah at the writing workshop last weekend. What would it take for me to be a featured guest?
    • Art : The live radio thing is pretty damn cool John  how can you afford to do that without any ads?
    • Jackie : i heard the streamcast from your folk concert and it was very enjoyable, a very talented group. thanx.
    • John : Jimmie's making a HUGE pot of potato soup for Thursday Night Music Club tonight. Come hungry.
    • John : It's rained so much I think I'm growin' gills. Could Mother Nature please settle us in somewhere between drought and rain forest?
    • John : here's the online PDF version of Texas Music Magazine. It's worth looking at. «link»
    • Pat : 2:39 p.m. Best contemporary folk album: Steve Earle's "Townes." «link» And the Jeff Beck "How High The Moon" tribute to Les Paul was cool.
    • John : Well, Tejas had two out of the five nominations in our category in yesterday's Grammy Awards but didn't win. The 30 minutes of the broadcast I sat and watched was just awful. They really work hard to make those talented people look so stupid. Bon Jovi was ridicuous. Pink was the only cool thing I saw. The song didn't leave any impression, just the high wire and dripping water act. That was cool. She should join the circus.
    • John : The Cactus Cafe links U.T. with Austin's music scene. What a mistake to close it.
    • Steven : that's bad news
    • Pat : when in Austin did you hear that they're closing the Cactus Cafe? «link» Captial City musicians mustn't be happy 'bout that. :-(
    • Sonny : John, I'm in the showcases. Second room from the front.
    • John : Back on the computer for a moment. Claude just finished his showcase. He filled the room and did a fantastic job. He's easily one of the coolest guys here. Jimmie, I just met somebody who remembers you from a Swindles show at Riley's. He verified it when he said you were a "spirited dancer". I've also talked to a surprising number of people who are following everything that happens with TNMC on Facebook each week and several who've played it.
    • John : Well thanks..... I'm on the computer across from the bar if you're on a laptop or something in the lobby. But people are waiting - I'll be the one getting beat up here in two or three minutes. I'm doing fine - THANKS SO MUCH, CASEY. THIS HAS BEEN A VERY GOOD EXPERIENCE.
    • Sonny : i've been searching around this website. nice. I met John Whipple at the songwriter's workshop in Austin yesterday and Googled him. a wonderful songwriter.
    • Jimmie : yeah, a big one.
    • Tyler Archer : Whoo-hoo! TNMC tonight!
    • John : Funny how that works, huh?
    • Casey : ok so if you ask who is bringing the cake I guess the answer is you.
    • John : your Grandma really liked it last time so one of the potluck headliners for TNMC is going to be your mother's famous lasagna style ZITI! We need good bread and lots of side dishes.
    • John : Grandma has been the great provider of everybody's birthday cakes for so many years, we need to get her a nice one. What should we do?
    • Casey : what is the meal plan for TNMC? Anyone bringing a cake? :D
    • John : It just hasn't learned to love you yet. Bring it and I'll do a little matchmaking on Thursday.
    • Tyler Archer : Uncle John I'll bring my laptop to TNMC & show you but the Dashboard wont let me create posts- I'm logged in...it just hates me
    • karen in Hawaii : So, it's a good year for Bluebonnets and you're still counting them, I bet! Sigh...what a life.
    • John : It's not you, live links are the only thing that don't email in - they're just seen as text. If you log in you can do it the non emailing in way and then links are easy. Try it!
    • Tyler Archer : Uncle John the blog hates me - my links didn't show up :( again
    • John : Going to Riley's tonight. Join us!
    • DAP : Avett Brothers are on Austin City Limits tonight.
    • John : you gots ta log in. Or you can email it in. I'll call you.
    • Casey : what changed? how can I write a post?
    • Tyler Archer : Thanks Uncle John! I'm glad I finally got to stay for a little bit of the song circle again.
    • John : You were really good tonight, Tyler. I enjoyed everything you did.
    • Tyler Archer : Whoo-hoo! TNMC!!! Yay!!! Yeehaw!!! Yippee! Okay that's all the excitement I can handle right now...see y'all tonight!
    • John : Don't forget Thursday Nigh Music Club tonight! «link»
    • Steve : Cursor kite. I WANT one. Take control of the beach. Delete bullies kicking sand in my face. Erase bikini tops. Who knew it could be this easy? «link»
    • Steve : Want to vote in the Austin Chronicle Music Poll? «link»
    • John : Going with my cousin Charlie Whipple (who's closing in on 80) to visit cousin Dorothy Wimberley, (over 90), on Wednesday to mill over stories, photos and papers about our family in the early days of Wimberley, Tx. Charlie wrote a song about Wimberley that mentions Dot's grandfather Pleasant Wimberley and we're going to sing it for her. I think she'll be tickled. I'll try to get some photos.
    • Steve : I saw your "Big Picture" link about Haiti the other day. Here's the newest one called "Six Days Later": «link»
    • John : me, three.
    • Art : It's very sunny and warm today... but I wish I was down there with a fishing pole.
    • Steve : I hope the weather is as nice in San Antone as it is here at South Padre. Sunny, warm and clear.
    • John : oh... beautiful today though. Jimmie and I have been walking and counting bluebonnet plants. 21,435 or at least more than we've ever seen before.
    • John : It has rained the same slow, steady, hypnotic rain for more than 24 hours now. It's enough to drive you crazy.
    • Karen in Hawaii : I'll hush now, but just thanks for having the most TEXAN website that I've ever found, and it's THE place on the net I come to when I am homesick. Goodnight, from here.
    • Karen in Hawaii : Dang, I guess I need sleep, Jimmie. I thanked you for making me welcome and sharing your part of the cyber world, and this very fine TEXAS family site.
    • Karen in Hawaii : Christmas and the Holiday season was as nice as possible. for our immediate family it was fun and sweet, but EVERY holiday we spend time on the phone with family back there, of course.
    • Tyler Archer : Thanks Uncle John you're my Blog Knight in Shining Armor :)
    • John : I fixed it.
    • Tyler Archer : uh-oh john my post is on there twice!!!!
    • John : I saw on FaceBook that Terry Garza was asking what sign you were. Remember why you and I went on the Atkins Diet? So our sign doesn't have to be "wide load".
    • MF : John, I have severed all ties with Dr.Atkins and his Shenannigans. To Wit: I embrace and endorse Dulce de Leche and all other variants of The Girl Scouts, and will consume them in copious quantities, should they become available. That bridge is a smoldering pile of dust.
    • Malcolm : Looks like I need to make my way to TNMC this week with an order form! :D
    • Tyler Archer : OMG OMG! I want Samoas, thin mints, sandies, the apple ones, tag-alongs, ummm and all the other too! I bought 10 boxes last year, but in my defense two were for Haley...
    • Taylor Whipple : I'll take some Thin Mints.
    • John : Dulce De Leches? Sounds like one of the bridges you're burning is the one between you and the Atkins Diet. 8-O
    • MF : Malcolm Ill take a box of dulce de leches...will you be at the Faust?
    • John : That sounds like a deal Malcolm. We'll take some for sure. Bonnie Priest used to put notices here years ago... now Ali is all grown up and in college and our Girl Scout Cookie connection dried up.
    • Malcolm : For those Whippleworlders looking for a source of Girl Scout cookies I've got you covered: «link» Order early, order often and deliveries can be accomplished at either the Thursday Night Music Club or Reilly's. Not that I need an excuse, but one helps!
    • John : Our well head is exposed and a lot of our plumbing is really susceptible to freezing when it gets down to under 25 and stays there all night. This 15 degree business is a real problem. I think I was able to prepare for it here ok but I'm afraid Taylor's house may go off like a sprinkler after the ice melts.
    • John : Here's Cassell and Craig as seen from above: «link»
    • John : we had a nice TNMC. We missed Deirdre and Ann/Mom but it was sure nice to see Tara, The Garcia's and David Byboth. The night ended with a bang... Evan's car wreck.
    • Jimmie : So nice to have a virtual visit from you, Karen. Hope you had a wonderful holiday season there in paradise!
    • Karen in Hawaii : Oh man! I miss the San Antonio Light. very cool to see this here. Well, I'll hush, bless you all.
    • Karen in Hawaii : Y'all enjoy your winter weather, seriously I miss the stuff but hoping you don't stay Too cold for long.
    • Karen in Hawaii : John, I hear ya. Thanks. I'd bet anyone in that area named Wells is likely kin, just as every person named Grumbles in Texas dang sure is.
    • John : Be ready..... San Antonio is going to get down into the teens for the first time since 2002. Thursday, Friday and Saturday are all going to be super cold.
    • John : Thanks, Mike. My voice felt good and, for whatever reason, my pitch was there. It usually has a mischievous mind of it's own bent on making a fool out of me.
    • MF : John, you sounded great at Riley's....the best iv'e heard you in a long while...what ever it was keep doing that!
    • Jimmie : we're heading out for a little holiday visit to see Charlie and Susan Whipple
    • John : Karen, Rick is a friend but my Dad knows him a lot better than I do. I think he lives northwest of San Antonio. Maybe Boerne. That's not to say he didn't come from Devine.
    • Karen in Hawaii : John, your friend Rick Wells....is he from Devine, or kin to Kenneth Wells & the other Wells that are from there?
    • Karen in Hawaii : Wow, so much to catch up on! God bless you, John to be your healthiest in this new year, and hope you're all healed and fine, now. HAPPY new year to all of you, Sincerely, dang I gotta get some sleep but I see a lot of new posts and videos to get back here and enjoy, soon. K~
    • John : well, Jimmie and I are looking forward to seeing you tonight at The Lavens. I'm looking forward to playing - maybe we'll grab that traditional song circle spot on the back porch if it's not too chilly.
    • Malcolm : John, it is always a pleasure to see you, Jimmie, Brad, Glenn and everyone else energy level notwithstanding. Just glad to see you up and at 'em! :-) I love hanging out with you guys!
    • Steve : here's a better, high tech snow flake designer. «link»
    • John : it was great to see you at Riley's, Malcolm. Thanks for coming up. Sorry my energy level was so low, I'm still trying to get back to normal.
    • Malcolm : Okay, Glenn, Brad and I are here at Riley's waiting for you, John and company! ;)
    • John : Mother, Deirdre and Renee are coming up for dinner. I'm going to Riley's to play after that and some of them may come for a while. For DAP the deterrent is the smoke. Evan and Jimmie are coming to play. Come up if you can!
    • Steve : don't have no Texas snow? This is beautiful and easy «link»
    • John : We Wish You a Merry♪♫•*¨*•.¸¸♥ ¸¸.•*¨*•♫♪ Christmas♪♫•*¨*• .¸¸♥ ¸¸.•*¨*•♫♪We Wish You a Merry ♪♫•*¨*•.¸¸♥ ¸¸.•*¨*•♫♪Christ mas ♥ ♥ ♥We Wish You A Merry ♪♫•*¨*•.¸¸♥ ¸¸.•*¨*•♫♪Christ mas ♪♫•*¨*•.¸¸♥ ¸¸.•*¨*•♫♪...And A Happy New Year!♪♫•*¨*•.¸¸♥
    • John : Quick!... more fake boogers!!
    • Deirdre : All of the mountain cedar in South Texas has just landed in my sinuses in the last hour. And I haven't even gone outside. (We need a head swelling like a balloon emoticon here.)
    • John : thanks! We're heading over to our daughter Casey's new house in San Antonio for this year's Christmas dinner and get together. We've always done it on Christmas Eve. We'll have a big breakfast and do the kids' presents in the morning and then over to Mitch and Hillary's Christmas afternoon. Hope every body has a wonderful, peaceful and relaxing Christmas! Relax, it's CHRISTMAS!
    • Art : MERRY CHRISTMAS WHIPPLEWORLD!
    • DAP : I would also recommend Allergen Block «link» - also known as fake boogers. They help.
    • John : Well... the cedar pollen is starting to release. If you take something for cedar fever, start taking it now. Taylor and I take the over the counter generic Clariton from Wal-Mart. If you get the Equate two 60 count bottle package it's something like 8 cents a pill. If you take it everyday starting now you might cruise through unscathed this season.
    • John : No, we went once and that's enough. If they were to have it at Riley's I'd go.
    • Maria : congratulations on another year of Grammy nominations for Tejas, John. Not just one but two :!: Are you going to go?
    • Steve : glad you're out Big John. don't over do.
    • John : other than the incision, my arm looks normal for the first time in what seems like forever. I have this strange, strong taste of what I guess is the antibiotics. I'm a little unsteady but other than that... I feel pretty good. Thanks everybody for all your kindnesses while I was sick.
    • Jimmie : He's out of surgery and back in his room. Doing great.
    • Kim M : Good luck with the surgery, John. Let us know if we can do anything to help you guys. Hope those bugs give up soon so you can go home.
    • Guest_3160 : John-I am so sorry--hang in there. Becky
    • DAP : I know this doesn't help, but OOUUCCHHHHH!!! :-?
    • John : In three hours (Wed. 7:00) I'm having the surgery to clean out the part of the infection that's in my elbow. Looks like I'm going to be here until Friday.
    • John : It's Tuesday night, about 11:45 - I'm sitting in my hospital bed with a computer in my lap. It feels like I've been in this room forever. They took me for a wheelchair ride to x-ray yesterday. I was looking around, so excited, like a dog in the back of a pickup truck. I gotta get outta here. I think I'm gonna make a crawl for it.
    • John : That's the bad news Malcolm, after this I won't be able to play the piano worth a damn. Exactly the same as before.
    • Malcolm : That's terrific news! :-) Now the question remains will you be able to play the piano?
    • John : Taylor just stopped by the hospital to check on me and I've commondeered his laptop for the rest of the day. I'm doing much better. Thanks to everyone for the well wishes. I've rounded the corner and will be back on my feet in a day or two.
    • Cara : Sending my prayers and best wishes!
    • Kelli : Oh no!! Just read the news...putting the entire Whipple clan in my prayers. Keep us posted...
    • Casey : mom says dad is stable. they are giving him heavy duty anti-biotics... she will be staying the night with him... she went to wally world to buy some knitting materials so she should be ok too
    • Casey : um he doesn't want any visitors today but if he gets feeling better and he does I will post it.... right now he just wants to get feeling better
    • MF : How long will he stay? Is he getting visitors?
    • Casey : John has been admitted to North East Methodist Hospital. The infection has spread to his hand and he is now being given intervenious anti-biotics. I will post updates. Let's all hope for the best.
    • Jimmie : They weren't able to get anything to drain so, no culture. I marked the outer rim of the red area and it hasn't grown since this afternoon. Also, I think he's feeling better.
    • MF : Methicillin-resi stant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is a bacterial infection that is highly resistant to some antibiotics. Staph skin infections cause a red, swollen, and painful area on the skin
    • MF : Methicillin-resi stant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is a bacterial infection that is highly resistant to some antibiotics. Staph skin infections cause a red, swollen, and painful area on the skin similar to what he is experiencing
    • MF : Good. There are only a small amount of antibiotics that can kill certain bacteria, and if it's incapsulated that will keep it from spreading but hard to kill. Im glad you took him. with a broad spectrum of antibiotics should keep it from making him worse. did they do a culture to see if it's not MRSA or Staph?
    • DAP : Ouch! "Dug around" and "with a needle" are not pleasant to think about - I hope you were well-drugged for that. 8-O
    • Jimme : The infection did suddenly take a turn for the worse. I took him to the emergency room and then Tx Med Clinic. He got an injection of antibiotics and scrip for 2 addtional antibiotics and something for the pain. They think the infection is in the joint not the bursa because although she dug around, she couldn't drain it with a needle. If not better Monday we'll go to an orthopedist.
    • MF : it takes 24 to 48 hours for the antibiotics to kick in from when you start. If this doesn't resolve you got the wrong antibiotics and need to go back. There are many strains if bacteria. So if he ain't rocking by tomorrow yall should see a different Doc. Hang in there big John!
    • Jimmie : I'm keeping an eye on him, Mike. The fever went up to 101+ and I had him call the doctor. Then I had him alternate advil & tylenol and the fever finally went down. The arm is a little larger but not as hot to the touch. He feels very bad.
    • MF : John if you get fever with that go to the ER....that infection could go systemic...don' t mess around
    • John : Man, I came down super sick all of a sudden. I have an infection in my elbow of all places. They said it's probably a bad bursitis that got infected. It's huge and red and swollen. Can't seem to get the fever down. I'm sitting here half delirious hoping the antibiotics kick in pretty soon. I'm miserable. :-(
    • John : perfect idea... we're going to do that!
    • DAP : There are 4 tiers of static, colored lights on our little prelit tree. Only tiers 2 & 4 will light. So I added a longer string of white animated lights and I'm pretending it's all intentional. :D
    • John : We're putting up the Christmas tree... trying to get the lights to work.
    • John : I think, although born in Rowena, she had moved to Dallas and that's where they met. There were some stories in the family about her but I don't know them. Seems like two families with girls can't live in a tiny West Texas town without knowing a little about each other.
    • Steve : i'm following the stories here, you know that tiny little Rowena, Texas is where Bonnie Parker lived her whole life until she took off with Clyde.
    • John : the plugin that creates that list will do that but I've tried it and it creates a long column of type where you can't distinguish the names. I guess there's a way to change the code to make the names bold or put a carriage return between them but I don't know how to do it. But it works the way it is, when there's a new name at the top of the list there's a new comment. Clicking takes you to it.
    • Art : John, do that thing where it shows the first sentence of every comment.
    • John : you're right, that's the key. To explain things like that we need some kind of FAQ page to clue newcomers who's who and what's what and how to get more out of the website. That's only been on the list of things for do for six years.
    • Mary : i first came from a link to the ducks post but I love this site. A lot goes on every week and I don't quite know who's who - It's like a texas internet reality show. I just found the "recent comments" nested in the sidebar. THAT is making it easier to stay up with the comments.
    • John : it crept down to 22 degrees.... for us South Texas cold wimps, that's like sub-zero.
    • John : well, there was a little snow in New Braunfels today. Evan saw it at school and said it was the largest, fluffiest flakes he'd seen in his life. We've battened down the hatches here. Turned the well pump off and opened all the hydrants, let all three giant German Shepherds in the house and got the plants in a closed area with a space heater blastin'. We're as ready for 25 degrees as we can get.
    • John : wouldn't it be nice to have a reading every time? We make the rules... let's make that rule!
    • DAP : I'm really sorry I missed that! I really like when someone does a reading!
    • John : even though we were missing Mother and Deirdre last night... that was a great Thursday Night Music Club. Lots of highlights but one for me was Susan Whipple reading one of Charlie's stories.
    • Art : you might laugh but I have a pair of snowshoes
    • DAP : I do believe in snow! I do! I do!
    • Steve : There's a line outside Academy Sports and Outdoors at Perrin Beitel and 410. A run on snowshoes.
    • John : Is anybody believing all this talk about how it's going to snow here tomorrow?
    • Tyler Archer : I bought myself some super cute Christmas socks and a new santa hat- does that count?
    • Steve : Anybody else not even started their Christmas shopping yet?
    • Jimmie : write wabbits, wright wabbits, wright wabbits
    • John : white rabbits, white rabbits, white rabbits.
    • John : Jimmie just came in to report that the first freeze of the year will be here possibly as soon as Wednesday night but by the weekend for sure. Start putting your plants up Central Texas! I have to assemble my makeshift greenhouse.
    • Steve : clean up your desktop from the inside «link»
    • Malcolm : For those with HBO and are interested, they are showing the 25th anniversary Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Concert. Jerry Lee Lewis opened with Great Balls of Fire and CSN is on right now. :D
    • Mary : LOVE THE WEBSITE, WHIPPLES!
    • John : we had a good Thanksgiving. Spent Thursday with our kids, my mom and dad and Jimmie's side of the family and yesterday with Smith and Davis cousins from the Whipple side. It's like we've been members of a professional eating team.
    • Art : Hope you all have a great Turkey Day!!
    • John : Turkey report... it's belly up in the tanning booth. Lookin' good.
    • John : and it just dawned on me... he gets to sleep late. That damn Jack.
    • John : big old turkey's half thawed out, gonna get up at 6 in the morning and put it in the smoker. Jack's frying his at the party tomorrow... Jack kicks my ass on showmanship.
    • John : who?
    • Tyler Archer : My favorite beefcake is gonna be on Rolling Stone Magazine :)
    • Art : uummmmmmm yummm beercake! ;)
    • Steve : feeling low, deep down in your sooooooul? Has your funky turned old and junky? Maybe you fell out of touch with Sly. «link»
    • John : I heard on the news that the beefcake movie made $140,000,000 in the first four days. All but just a little of it from women. Highest first weekend gross in history. And they say it's terrible. Silly girls, with $140 million you could have negotiated a worldwide group rate at Chippendale's.
    • Steve : a picture like that of fat guys like us wouldn't be beefcake they'd be beercake.
    • John : well here it is... Thanksgiving week. Whether we're ready of it or not, welcome to The Holiday Season 2009! This one has the benefit of Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and New Years Eve all falling on Thursdays so lots of people are going to get three, four day mini-vacations really close together.
    • John : don't make the news just report it. Remember, it wasn't cheese it was cheeseCAKE. ....I really have no idea.
    • Jackie : how is it that women are cheese and men get to be beef? Cheese?
    • John : You just removed an item off the almost infinite list of things I don't know.
    • Michael : proof number zillion that it's a small world. Joe Walsh is Ringo Starr's brother-in-law. Bet you didn't know that. 8-O
    • Steve : Is it raining in north Whippleworld? It's soaking here in south Whippleworld.
    • John : It's such a ridiculous word. It's origin, of course, is the masculine from of Cheesecake. How did people come up with the word Cheesecake to describe provocative female poses? It's like it was already weird so Beefcake was just another big step in that weird direction. Right?
    • Tyler Archer : Wow when's the last time the word Beefcake was thrown around...
    • John : Whippleworld has gone Beefcake
    • Malcolm : Sure Tyler, sure.
    • Tyler Archer : I didn't mean for Taylor Lautner's picture to be so big...ooops- Have fun at TNMC without me tonight!!! I'll be back after Thanksgiving!
    • John : Cara, I got it and really appreciate it. I'm going to get a disc of other photos back to you as soon as I can.
    • Cara Cash King : John~ did you get the disc? If for some reason it does not work just let me know! :D
    • John : Spam is a reality we have to live with. Even FaceBook now is getting attacked like crazy. But we had a little spam hacker attack here over the last few days. It wasn't anything that spread or was of any danger, just a nuisance. Our guardian angel Gretchen fixed it but we are changing some passwords so about half of you may get an email from the site with a new password. If you don't, don't worry about it and keep using what you have.
    • John : It happens once a year.... Light The Heater Day. It was 38 degrees here last night. Fall has shot a shot across our bow. ;)
    • John : it's great Mom!
    • Ann Pattillo : Son, I'm sorry my story was so long.
    • Ann Pattillo : I was saying that to have groceries delivered on a regular basis was too expensive, and she had to charge so much that even the local people couldn't support the store. So when you see the picture of the old run down building you can clearly see the results. The same thing happened to the school there. It was a beautiful old brick, small town school. I have never thought until now, how sad it is. But I hear there are some people in town adding on or fixing up their home's. Who knows what all c
    • Ann Pattillo : It is hard to believe that while I was growing up "Baker's store" took care of Choate 's people. We had a charge account for groceries, and when Mama got paid, she paid them. My Aunt "Neen" for Maudine, was mama's sister. She married Charlie Bradfute and moved to Choate and leased the store. You could always go there after she took over and get a bowl of beans and some cornbread, and if it was cold she probably had made chile. She was well known and liked but had to have cash. To be on a
    • John : eBird for Jimmie «link»
    • John : Mom, look at this link. See if you don't see Aunt Neen's store. «link»
    • John : Can you imagine how lucky coaches are going to be to get one or maybe both those kids on their teams. Girls or boys.
    • Ann Pattillo : Can you believe that Manu and wife will be having twins in June? I am so happy that he the Spurs kept him here. He was sad for a time (so were we).
    • Ann Pattillo : Jimmie made some scrumptious beef stroganoff for TNMC, I saw several people refilling their plates with that good stuff. We miss John Amos, but hope he is having fun. I enjoyed TNMC very much as did my friend. Sure did love Misner & Smith.
    • Steve : if you're good with charts and graphs maybe this makes sense. «link» :?: 8-O :?:
    • Jimmie : Live report from TNMC - there are two, count em two stand up basses in attendance. And I made beef stroganoff FROM SCRATCH just for you, including homemade noodles ala John Amos.
    • MF : Sound the keening bells forthwith, I make for TNMC today, gird your loins and prepare. The hour is almost nigh, I come bearing meat and wood and steel.
    • John : The Thursday Night Music Club got a nice mention in the local newspaper today. The guy from the paper has come a couple of times and is coming again this week.
    • Tyler Archer : YAY!!! I need more TNMC in my life! NOW!
    • John : OK, Tyler NOW it's tomorrow.
    • Tyler Archer : Just got really excited thinking tomorrow was TNMC...then realized it's only gonna be Wednesday... sad :-(
    • Art : John, I'm going to try to make The Musical Club this week.
    • John : Evan and I are heading up El Camino Real to Riley's Tavern. We'll be there playing until midnight... you got time to drive up!
    • John : obviously enough to fill a song and one song full is enough to keep a guy in trouble for a lifetime.
    • Casey : no Evan was born an old man 8-O
    • Art : He's 15 right? How much could he be getting wrong already? :?:
    • John : no, he's sure his sexiness is already apparent enough. This is a "what I did wrong" love song.
    • Casey : was it about his self proclaimed sexiness? or about love for long dirty hair? :D
    • John : For the first time (of maybe a whole lifetime of doing it) Evan played his first original song on stage last night. It was going to happen one day and yesterday was the day. And it was really good, I'm so very proud of him!!
    • John : not this week. :-( It's a shame because the weather is perfect. This is when you have a good chance to catch big Redfish off the pier at Port A.
    • Art : Yes... when are we going fishing, John?
    • Jess : When are we going fishing, John?
    • John : I just talked to David Fenley on the phone and he said he's planning to come to Thursday Night Music Club tonight. That would be cool, he's a great singer. He said he'd heard great things about what we're doing from several different people. It's tonight, y'all come on.
    • John : Jay Perez. Thanks.
    • Steve : I heard one of your releases got a "tejano record of the year" Grammy nomination. Congrats!!
    • John : That sounds great, Cara. Thanks!
    • Cara Cash King : Hey guys... almost done with loading family pics onto a disc. I will be mailing the disc to John. :D
    • Steve : like to ride this cable «link»
    • John : Jimmie said she just heard on the news that Manu is going to have to get the rabies shots. They didn't save the bat to get tested so to be safe he's going to have to get the battery of injections.
    • John : what a beautiful day today is!
    • Art : i bet this'll be on Manu Ginobili's lifetime highlight reel. «link» 8-O
    • John : just back from the game, it was fun. Thanks Becky. Manu swatting the bat out of the air (on Halloween no less) was something that happened once and probably never again. That's what'll make tonight's game famous in Spurs history.
    • Jess : yeah, THE KINGS are going to come dressed like basketball players. HOO YAAAAAA!!!! GO SPURS!!! ;)
    • Art : so jealous. should be a great game. i wonder if anybody will come to the AT&T Center in costume
    • John : I can tell you what Jimmie and I are doing for Halloween - her sister Becky overnighted us a pair of tickets to the Spurs game. Spurs (our team) vs. Kings (her team). I love having sister-in-laws.
    • Stephen : hope all you Texans have a fun but safe Halloween!
    • John : The world's best pancake recipe? Do you think? «link»
    • John : wouldn't it be fun to go to Junction and hunt arrowheads? «link»
    • MF : Yay for boy stuff!
    • John : if you want to enjoy some "color therapy" try this. «link» Just click a color and watch what happens. It adds additional color criteria with each color you click. Use the trash can to delete colors.
    • John : The house concert was great. If other people will help with it I think it could continue as a series running along side the Sunday House shows. Certainly a good venue for it.
    • John : Casey's house warming party is today. She says Sean's been cooking a brisket all night. Jimmie has made her famous potato salad. We'll be playing music by the pool - it starts at 4:00 and the address is 5807 Liberty Bell which is right off 35 at O'Conner.
    • MF : Viva Terlingua! John you and Jimmie would love it!
    • John : you can read Mix Magazine online for free at this «link»
    • Ann Pattillo : I agree with Deirdre, Laramie by Jon Hogan was wonderful and I also liked the Train song. I'm looking forward to Nov 12th. I hope their friend comes back also (Deb)
    • John : we went back down there this morning and helped pick up their gear. They said they were cold but fine. Taylor says the whole campout experience was just what he wanted.
    • John : we had a very relaxing evening on the river. Picture perfect day for sitting around a fire by the river. Taylor and Evan and a bunch of his friends stayed overnight in our big tent... I bet they froze. It went down to 47 degrees and us Whipples think we're going to die under 50, 47 to a Texan is 9 below to a Yankee. I told them it was going to cold but they kept saying they'd be o.k. I think all they took was the sheets off their beds. :-)
    • John : well I got news for everybody... it's swimming weather. Jimmie, Taylor and Evan and I are going to be in the Comal River, Texas River Heaven, in about 30 minutes and if you aren't then you only have yourself to blame. We have the spot reserved all day and all night so drive up if you suddenly need salvation.
    • Patricia : very interesting website, i really enjoy the videos and the stories
    • John : I agree. Jon Hogan intends to hit a nerve - on any given night some people will be in the mood for that and some won't but that's what happens when you swing for the fence. I loved it. Their song "The Train Doesn't Stop In My Town Anymore" was one of the most surprisingly good live performances I've seen in a long time. And you could tell they loved the response they got. You have to admit, the TNMC crowd is a great audience to play for. They're coming back on Nov. 12th with a standup bass player. Advice to those who come every couple of weeks.... don't miss that week.
    • Deirdre : I was so moved by Jon Hogan's song Laramie last night:«link» .youtube.com/wat ch?v=bwLgYbCVR88
    • Ann Pattillo : Malcolm, you are so funny!
    • John : I think this was the most humid day of the twenty first century.
    • John : calm down everybody; nobody needs to be squeezing out of their skivves.
    • Melissa : easiest thing to squeeze out would be skivvies - they're skimpy.
    • Malcolm : Oh good! For a minute there I thought you were talking about pantaloons!
    • John : We have a ton of deer on our acreage here and my buddy Lee Villarreal is out there bow hunting. John Amos is afraid to make a run for the Casita. He'd need to be waving a white flag.
    • John : you know... knickers. 8-O
    • Malcolm : Bloomers?
    • John : the little rock festival last night was pretty wild. Carrie Ann was a very good host. We visited with her but didn't get to see her play because she was scheduled for 8:00 but by midnight she hadn't gone on, We couldn't stay to play around the campfires because we were just tuckered out. There were lots of tents but I'm afraid also lots of rain this morning. Everybody there was totally into it so I'm sure it all worked out in the end. I'm glad we didn't camp, we'd be wringing out our bloomers.
    • John : we're headed to Carrie Ann's music festival in San Marcos. Get in a little campfire playing.
    • John : Glad you found Whippleworld and hope you keep coming back. It's only part Whipples, it's mostly other relatives and lots of friends. It's the "extended family and friends free for all". There's a very limited number of Whipples but the site's slowly growing through the adoption of friends. I've always wanted it to have at least some musical focus, maybe you can help. Contributors are welcome!
    • Keith : I see "Whipple" associated with Texas music in so many websites. Glad to find this main webpage for Whipples.
    • Michael : if it's dry, it's big dry. If it's wet, it's big wet. It's Texas. ;)
    • Art : yeah - Texas is a drippy old dishtowel. We have mushrooms popping up in our front yard.
    • John : Mother Nature has had two speeds in 2009 - drought or deluge. She has shifted to deluge. It's like living in a terrarium. One that has beads of water trailing down the glass. And we're stuck in it.
    • John : That sure was a great night. This Thursday will be really good, Lawrence Olivier will be the special guest. And of course there'll be.... EVAN!
    • Ann Pattillo : Last night at the Faust was so much fun, had a great time as usual.
    • Ann Pattillo : My friend Sissy & I have talked about a Delbert McClinton cruise for years, but since I don't think the water & I have a good understanding of each other, I have declined everytime. However, it is something I would love to do.
    • John : Other than Kim, I don't know many people who have the phone/photo thing goin' on.
    • DAP : Stopped at the cemetery in Eola and took some photos of our grandfather's (Archie W. Seal) headstone. Trying to figure out how to get them off my phone considering both the USB and Bluetooth connections are broken . . .
    • John : The deal where fans can take an ocean cruise with a couple of famous musicans has been going on for years. Doing that same kind of thing on a train would have to be cheaper and more like roll n' roll. I know they'll rent whole cars, I wonder how that works?
    • DAP : You know how I love the train! Let's all go to Alpine.
    • John : let's do our own musical train trip «link»
    • John : well, Evan played four songs at Riley's tonight and he was very good again. I think he has arrived.
    • Ann Pattillo : Evan, was unbelievable! Now, when he makes up his mind to do something he just does it! Is that fantastic or what! We were all sitting there with our mouths hanging open. Jimmie & I looked at each other with utter disbelief, and Leslie was just smiling very calmly (as usual) It was great! Shows what happens when you miss a Thursday night at the "Faust"
    • John : Well, the effort put into Thursday Night Music Club paid off big again. It's a safe place for people to play. Evan got up for the first time and blew our minds. I've been aware of his progress with his guitar playing and know he has a good voice but last night was the first time the two came together in front of a microphone. I'm so proud of him. Last night was a milestone, the beginning of his singer/songwriter life. He's going to be really, really good.
    • John : Hey, don't forget Thursday Night Music Club tonight. I'm looking forward a laid back version of it after two weeks of having people packed in. It needs to be about 20 people. 50 becomes a circus. :) Jimmie has decided she would like to play an extended set so all Jimmie Whipple fans need to make sure and come tonight
    • John : Does anybody know where my Dad's teeth are?
    • John : Mike, you need to upload your video to YouTube so everybody can see it.
    • MF : opps...check this out! «link»
    • MF : You have to check this out...My video is on here somwhere!
    • John : and just now in the mid-afternoon a surprisingly cold cold front has blown in. It hasn't felt like this since last winter. Heatwave '09 is a thing of the past now. In the rear-view mirror. History. Good riddance.
    • John : yep... started raining last night and it ain't stopped. It's been almost 24 hours of soft rain.
    • Guest_1675 : Oops, Karen from Oahu
    • Guest_1675 : Y'all take care, enjoy the rain and praying that's all it is, good rain.
    • Guest_1675 : Your NOAA radar map looks like the cold front, or "cool" front that is approaching just may bring heavy rains. I pray not anything like Georgia got today, but guess that's the front that's responsible for that mess.
    • John : Thanks! He's doing pretty good. He's trying to adjust to his new meds.
    • Guest_1603 : Sending well wishes to Uncle John and Birtday wishes to Cousin John! :D
    • John : whew... wild week. Probably be wild for a while to come. Thanks everybody for all the birthday wishes (calls, here, FaceBook, emails, at the party) I was very honored. I hope you all realize it's just 53, right?
    • Kelli : Happy Birthday, John!!
    • John : It rained and our weeds grew a foot in a single week. I'll say one good thing about the drought, nobody had to cut their grass for a year.
    • Guest_3746 : Y'all have a blast at your birthday bash. Karen on Oahu~
    • Guest_3746 : HAPPY BIRTHDAY, John and God bless
    • Guest_3746 : Wonderful photos!
    • John : hope everybody's making plans to come to The Faust this Thursday. A couple of surprise guests are coming!
    • Michael : checking the weather sites looks like you friends in Texas are getting relief from the long drought. We are glad for you. :D
    • John : Font or Cheese is hilarious! Thanks. Another example is for colors. You would expect them to be named after natural things but second to that, they're named after food. Check it out: «link»
    • Dan : I was trying to think who would appreciate this. WHIPPLEWORLD! So for your enjoyment I invite you to play "Font or Cheese": «link»
    • John : Jay Perez has been on our label for a couple of records, he's going to Washington to sing in front of President Obama next week. One time Elida sang for a Bill Clinton event and Jimmie got to go as a Tejas representative and shook hands with Clinton. I'm sure Jay will knock 'em out, he's a great performer. We'll see if it helps record sales. :)
    • John : yeah Deirdre, it's been raining off and on, mostly on, for 24 hours now. They say we could have a fall full of floods like in 1998. That makes everybody up here in New Braunfels nested in between all these rivers and creeks really nervous. But for right now... it's wonderful. Just one day of rain and all the leaves have already greened up.
    • DAP : Glorious rain! Thank goodness for "real water" as Daddy would say. We've been running our soaker hose all summer long just so we can strongarm open the front door; one good soaking rain and it opens as easy as anything.
    • John : It rained beautifully for several hours. And it was 76 degrees at 1 in the afternoon. It had been hitting 105. This is the beginning of the end of Heatwave '09.
    • John : Yeah, Karen the next week might be our week for rain. Chances are up in the 60% for tomorrow.
    • John : Although Charlie was been successful at many things, I think writing is his calling.
    • Ann Pattillo : Son, Charlie writes like you can see it happening.
    • Karen on Oahu : I gotta peek at y'all's weather map. Any more rain? Seems the last few days I saw a lot of color on it, but can't recall which nights. Well, have a great week and fall season, whew, COOLER weather there! huggz!~
    • Karen on Oahu : PS, gal....(grin) AMAZING GRACE! that old song sung by Cassell would be hauntingly beautiful. I just had to share that.
    • Jimmie : Happy to brighten your day, Karen. Glad to have you with us!
    • Karen on Oahu : Well, y'all have a wonderful UNlabor day, spoil yourselves and still praying for rain for South, Central Texas!
    • Karen on Oahu : I could oh, so dig hearing her sing "Somewhere over the rainbow."
    • Karen on Oahu : She has a song about dancing and I really dug that one but then again, all six that were sampled from her myspace I think it was, were so fine.
    • Karen on Oahu : Just call me "a day late & dollar short" cuz only tonight, as I surfed the net I FINALLY found & got to listen to some of Cassell's music! JIMMMIE, it's GORGEOUS!
    • John : Karen, you are so sweet. It's such an honor to have you as part of the blog.
    • Karen on Oahu : God bless y'all and huggz.
    • Karen on Oahu : So, I'll hush with yet another sincere thank you. Food for the soul, but then that's what the Pecans were all about...food.
    • Karen on Oahu : THIS is why I come to your most excellent, family site. It's when I get the most homesick even though I've spent time on the phone with family & friends back there. I sit here and drink if not breathe it in, "it" being what life back there was and should be all about.
    • Karen on Oahu : "Inflation...50 5 Rigsby..." THIS is golden. No, I'm a stranger to the folks that wrote it, but not a stranger to them in "spirit."
    • John : Yeah, Mom... he said he loved it and that he's planning to come back. What a great guitar player.
    • Ann Pattillo : I thought he & his wife were a very special addition to last Thursday night, and what a great surprise. Sure hope they come back real soon.
    • John : if anybody's by their computer - the ole time and life sapping machine - at about midnight.... this Burning Man live cam «link» will show you this year's big event. They call it "The Burn", a big fire art performance where the Burning Man is burnt. 8-O
    • John : Terry is an old friend. He's taught a bunch of aspiring guitarists, maybe 50 or more, at San Antonio College each semester. That doesn't sound like a lot. But he's done that two semesters a year for 35 years. Thousands of students. I just really like him. He's made an important lifelong contribution.
    • Malcolm : It turns out a good friend of mine took Senor Muska's class a decade or two ago. Go figure! :D
    • John : I loved last night. Having Terry Muska there; to many he's the most respected guitarist in San Antonio. That was just awesome.
    • John : Thursday Night Music Club tonight! Hope everybody's coming.
    • DAP : That's it! We should plan a camping trip . . .or a mini-Woodzie. That would probably do it.
    • Steve : Organize! I'll chip in by scheduling the band for a series of outdoor shows.
    • Malcolm : I'm seriously considering throwing out all our umbrellas and rain gear. ;)
    • John : That oughta help. Can somebody hang out their laundry?
    • DAP : We keep leaving the car windows open . . .
    • John : no, sorry. I'm done with moving that junk. Go wash your car. ;)
    • Steve : drag all that &@#? back out on the lawn John, we could use a coupla more inches.
    • John : I dried the stuff and put it up.... hasn't rained since.
    • John : I took a quick 14 hour trip to the coast; hence the redfish we ate at TNMC last night. I had been cleaning out a little storage room and when I got the offer to to leave right then with my friend this thought came to my head. I can leave this suff out, we're in a drought, it ain't gonna rain. What a mess. Much more powerful than washing the car. You're welcome. AND then I thought I should leave it all out to dry because, we're in a drought, ain't gonna, etc. Rained on it all again. :)
    • John : we have to scroll into the future one slow post at a time.
    • MF : why wont it scroll ahead...to the future..now THAT would be some scrolling! Still the infinite scrolling thing is kinda cool.
    • Ann Pattillo : Just came from Martinez and it was pouring, blowing rain, for awhile. We left & just got down the rd aways & it quit. Saw Gary & Suzy Trial two of My favorite people. Didn't dance (no partner anymo)Oh well, stuff happens & all is well.
    • Jimmie : OMG it's RAINING!!!!!
    • John : Not far. Brad and Malcolm and The Laven family were there. I'm not sure who else. Everbody was abuzz about what number they got on their t-shirts. That's how they kept track, everybody got a shirt numbered in order.
    • Keiko : are far to luckenbach, texas? were whippleworld persons playing here? «link»
    • John : heading up the Camino Real to Riley's... see ya there. «link»
    • John : ...and Mike Fletcher is playing at Grillen In Gruene which in behind Cactus Jack's next to where they have Gruene Market Days. That's the property that used to belong to Uncle Raymond. So two free admission gigs for people to come see in Gruene tonight.
    • John : various members of Whippleworld are headed to Oma Gruene's Secret Garden tonight to hear Glenn and Kim. Sometime in the general vicinity of 7:00. Oma's is two backyards east of Gruene Hall. It's free.
    • John : I don't know anything about Explorer anymore. Is 7 the newest version? All I ask people to do is install Firefox, websites like ours and hundreds of others have to have it to work right. AND.. thanks for the compliments. We are working on speeding it up. Just a little longer....
    • Eric : Very cool infinite scrolling. absolutely love this site. the most constantly upkept family site i've ever seen. what a cool family. only tiny negative is i wish it would load faster.
    • Guest_1693 : John, works perfectly in Firefox but not at all in Microsoft Internet Explorer 7. Songs play great (very nice by the way) but Infinite Scroll just says "you have reached the end of the Internet". Funny line but I don't think it's true. 8-O
    • John : I got the plugin updated. Keep scrolling down the page to try to get to the bottom post. It'll go for six years. If you want, you can play with that little trick while the you listen to the music for the day. Music should keep playing. I was able to scan back more than a year by the end of the songs. Time travel.
    • John : Thursday Night Music Club was really unique last night. First... Jimmie pointed out that we had our 25th anniversary. Done it 25 weeks in a row. Is it our "stick to it tive ness" or our hardheadness? Anyway we broke form and played like a band all night. Song swapped for hours. We had a serious dulcimer player from Johnson City playing on every song. It was kinda solemn being the week of Roy's passing. But it was healing.
    • John : Evan was a half a credit short of what he needed for 10th grade so we had him take an online course from Texas Tech. He thought he was going to just whiz through it but what a hassle it turned out to be. Getting him to do it, trying to find the used books where they weren't $60 each, the computer delays, overnighting the final exam from there and back. But... it's done. And he's in.
    • Steve : talking about Jimmie's sister Cassell, I found a nice bio here.... «link»
    • John : I guess you gots ta keep an eye on you momma else she'll run off. I got a call from Ann/Mom and she' up on the Texas Oklahoma border at a watermelon parade in Forestburg, Texas. Population 50. Headed for a rodeo and street dance tonight. «link»
    • Art : Warning: do NOT FaceBook with the opposite sex. «link»
    • John : we had another spike in hits on the blog this week. This time it was David Priest's info on the meteor shower. A ton of people came to that post to get their news about it. It just all depends on what Google does. Google sees each post here as it's own webpage and that one got a high page rank on a topic that was big for several days. It's interesting how it works. Whippleworld has been around for so many years that it gets it's share of notice.
    • DAP : Les Paul passed away at 94.
    • John : Brad won tickets to the live Roots And Branches of Americana radio show in Gruene and gave them to us. So we spent the evening with Mr. Ray Wylie Hubbard. It was great.
    • John : heading up to Riley's to play with Glenn. We're there until midnight if anybody's lookin' for a taste of old time Texas.
    • John : Everybody loves you, Mom. We're excited that the news is all good!!
    • Ann Pattillo : I must share my good news. My Dr. says I am a cancer survivor & my prescription is to be happy. I told him some of my friends constantly talk about losing weight & I've gained, he said smile at them & say well "I'm a cancer survivor"
    • Steve : IF you're lucky
    • John : Up to the minute word is that Uncle Mitchy is doing fine. Hillary and Jimmie's correspondence of 10 minutes ago indicates Mitch can now tell he already has more flexibility without the metal. Mitch's life is constantly monitored by females. Like mine and yours I guess.
    • Ann Pattillo : Best of everything, Mitch. May the surgeon do his best work ever! Sending lots of love and wishes of a speedy recovery.
    • John : I heard from Hillary earlier today and she had Mitch in the car headed home. He's sore.
    • John : Evan is staying with them for a few days to help however he can.
    • John : Hillary has sent some updates on Mitch, most of you probably haven't seen them. He's getting ready to go in for the surgery to have the pins taken out of his leg. We appreciate everybody wishing him well.
    • John : It was fun last night Mike. That's a nice coffee house gig - very folky.
    • MF : Have a good recovery Mitch! Thanks John and Jimmie, Mike and Brad for coming out...Mike had loads of fun with the John jabs....even though he never met the guy!
    • Jimmie : Okay, that is the freakiest spam ever. My Mom's name was Edna and she loved Bingo. It would be just like her to haunt our website with ghost links. 8-O
    • Art : what in the sis-boom-bang is Melaluka?
    • John : I have sporadic problems with my email but it looks like you got my 2nd attempt. Let me know how else I can help you.
    • Guest_3125 : Thanks and no i am not a scammer just trying to get some info on one of your posts.. my email is «email» and I never got en email from you lol
    • John : Ok Guest_3125 I searched your info and see that you're real. I emailed you. You better not be trying to sell me some multi-level marketing scheme. If you email back about Melaluka or Video Telephones, we're gonna go 'round and 'round.
    • Guest_3125 : just trying to get some info about one of your posts
    • Guest_3125 : Hello, Trying to contact the site owner.. please email «email»
    • John : Funny. This is my favorite part: "The publisher began the action after the alleged similarities were pointed out in a music quiz programme shown in Australia in 2007." What rock did a person have to live under to not have heard the song a gillion times? MTV? Never saw them play it 87 times a day for three years. 8-O
    • Art : And now... publishing oddities. "Did Kookaburra Sit in the Old Gum Tree Down Under"? This is stranger than fiction. «link»
    • Ann Pattillo : Yeh for Casey! You are scoring all the way around> I started to call & ask you to come over here & tell these guys installing my siding a thing or two. I have told them plenty myself, but I need some backing up & its nowhere to be found. How about you Casey you seem to be on a roll. I'm really thrilled that you are taking lessons or will, from Joe Reyes.
    • John : I'm glad Casey!! Joe is a great guy. You're gonna be pleased with what you learn.
    • Casey : I set up guitar lessons with Joe Reyes starting next Monday at 2:30 at SpaceTone... looking forward to it ..... maybe if I get better I can actually turn the guitar up when I play....
    • John : I don't want to carry in an extra 90 pounds every week Mike but... playing the acoustic guitar through that old Fender tube amp made that whole vibe happen. It's not just that it changes the tone of the guitar, it pumps up the whole performance. We need a little Fender Deluxe or something.
    • mF : Jimmie I told you what I think about the ipod incident. You guys were great in your undercover gig.Guess your name has to rhyme with Famous to be invited... 8-O
    • Jimmie : The good news is - I found my phone! The bad news is - my ipod nano is still missing!! Did somebody pick it up at the Faust?? Maybe for safe keeping??? Please send it back. My daughter gave it to me and it's filled with all my favorite songs!!! :-(
    • John : and... although none of the colors or side bar stuff is there yet, this is a very, very bare bones version of the new theme with our content: «link» Just a little while longer and we're gonna be spaceaged.
    • John : Renee and I are using this site as the testing grounds for the new Whippleworld theme. Check it out: «link»
    • John : I'm going to be playing an actual gig at The Faust tomorrow night from 8:30 to 11:00 if anybody wants to come.
    • Ann Pattillo : Casey, my electric bill is $143.00. I have decided to have it averaged like Deirdre & Willy do and it will be $93.00 but at least I will know what to plan on.
    • Casey : Let's play who has the highest energy bill....Mine is 196 ...not bad until you consider it is normally under $100
    • John : I don't know Karen. Lowe's and Home Depot are probably going to have some of the lowest prices. You might put a "want to buy" ad on Craig's list looking for some.
    • Karen A. : Any one have any suggestions on a good place to buy laminate flooring that is cheap, but decent quality? Other than the obvious such as Home Depot, Lowes.
    • John : Yep. I love #6: Rotary dial televisions with no remote control. You know, the ones where the kids were the remote control.
    • Malcolm : I ran across this article on Yahoo and thought it had Whippleworld written all over it - «link»
    • Steve : Doug Sahm was a wild man. The San Antonio in him made him want to sell something, anything to tourists. When he played what he wanted, it was the westside horns behind him playing San Antonio soul music and T-Bone Walker style blues. To make a few pesos he'd do: «link»
    • Ann Pattillo : My big decision for today (don't know about tomorrow or following)should I wear off white boots or black. Off white won out! God is good!
    • John : Taylor got a fancy new rental car while his is in the shop and he and Evan are out terrorizing New Braunfels in it. As you know, Evan had been in Ft. Worth with Matt for a week and he's happy to be back. Maybe he'll come to The Faust tommorrow night.
    • Ann Pattillo : Where is my Evan? I miss him and need a big old bear hug from him.
    • Art : how do you know those comments are from younger people? I'll tell you who it is fer shure... it's YANKEE people. We are alienated from the tastes of grouchy, uptight Yankee people. Any present company excluded. ;)
    • John : This is a short thing on Judy Collins. I can't help but feel alienated from younger people's tastes when you read the first three comments. «link»
    • John : just back from a fun night at Riley's. Casey has a brand new song she's written that's really good and she played it on her pretty new guitar. She was really, really good. Check out this little history of Riley's. Notice the mention of “El Katy.” «link» Hunter is about as Texas as you can get - it's where we play every Sunday night.
    • Jimmie : Anybody pick up my Ipod at the Faust Thursday???
    • John : Last night was a wonderful night. Thanks to everybody for coming and being so kind to me. Sorry I couldn't open my eyes, I have major trouble remembering words and that prevents me from having any chance of looking casual. It's better than what I want to do, while straining to remember I want to squint one eye and stick my tongue out.
    • John : That's so surprising. I have three years and 50,000 miles on mine. Best footwear I've ever owned. Crocs or boots, those are my two speeds. I'm going up to the outlet mall to their discount outlet store and buy another pair tomorrow. I bet somebody will keep making them in the future, they're just too perfect to disappear entirely.
    • MF : John, and Jimmie, check this out...and say it aint so! «link»
    • Deirdre : I tried to promote the "Comment on the Commenter" post back to the top but it didn't work. A lovely person needs a comment!
    • John : Taylor had his car backed into in the parking lot while he was working. Basically the trailer hitch crunched his headlight. The lady did the right thing and yesterday State Farm wrote him an $833 check. They also gave him a rental car for seven days. He's stylin'.
    • John : made me sweat just reading that
    • DAP : Subcutaneous fat is found just beneath the skin as opposed to visceral fat which is found in the peritoneal cavity. Subcutaneous fat can be measured using body fat calipers giving a rough estimate of total body adiposity. This fat aids in the process homeostasis, by forming a layer of insulation therefore stopping heat loss in the long-term. «link»
    • Casey : How come the fatter you get the more you sweat....Could someone please explain this to me!
    • Malcolm : There isn't a day that goes by that I don't feel nerdy.
    • Tyler Archer : Oooh its gonna be exciting- the characters are super uncomfortable in their adolescence and trying to date- all while being attacked by evilness all around them- it's gonna be awesome!!! anyone else feeling as nerdy as me today??? :D
    • John : what's going on in Harry Potter world?
    • Tyler Archer : Happy Harry Potter Day Eve!!! Who's excited?
    • Josh : I'm here in Vermont and it hasn't been warm enough yet to swim. First time ever for the whole Northeast not to hit 85 even once by the middle of summer. It's spring here in July. You cowboys are hoggin' the heat!!!!!!!! We don't have to have hot, we'd take warm.
    • Cara Cash King : Hello All :D
    • John : Another 106 degree day in Texas. Glenn was saying something like how some of his family in New York were complaining that it's been cooler than usual up there. Weird year for weather.
    • John : We're all looking forward to seeing you tonight Casey!
    • Casey Ann : No Happy Birthday Casey on Whipple World???
    • Jimmie : Could I have brought a pillow and spread out on a pew?
    • John : .... we should've gone to see Mitch!
    • Jimmie : Or humane.
    • John : it's 9:00 at night and 97 degrees. That ain't human.
