Picking a date for the Woodzie

To keep it in our mind’s eye (we need to use the appropriate vernacular when talking about the Woodzie) I shifted this post to the top of the pile.

We better pick a date for this year’s event. I’ve heard a hundred conversations held amongst and between ourselves about when it should be and who has what weekends open I but we have to nail it down before too much longer. The give and take is always who prefers what weekend and the cusp of that best weather time between late March and the first week of May when it stops being cold and before it gets too hot. We started the blog as we were planning the Blue Hole Campout and we thought the main use would be for planning our family and friends get-ta-gethers but…. it’s never gotten any easier, it’s like trigonometry

You’re right, we had better decide soon. We’re in Austin now and we’re recruiting…it’s hard to recruit when you don’t have a date.

One factor is that we need some time to get ready and on the other side I’m planning a big 50th birthday for Jimmie on the river on the 19th of May and we can’t get too close to that date.
We can start narrowing it down:
The 31st of March. That’s Evan’s and right after Dad’s birthday. It would be pushing it to get ready by then and Glenn and Kim have a gig at Riley’s that night making it bad for them.
April 7th. Easter weekend. Bad for many families who have other family to visit Sunday morning. But Renee and Randy prefer that day because it gets them in from Silver City for an Easter visit. We have done it successfully on Easter before.
April 14th. Right before tax day. Doesn’t really matter because nobody we know makes any money anyway. This could be a good day for it.
April 21th. Probably the last possible day without getting too close to Jimmie’s party. That date would give us plenty of time to get ready.
So everybody kick that around, seems to me that it’s comes down to the 7th, 14th and 21st of April. I’m going to call Chris, it can’t happen without him so we need his input.

I did a search of the blog to check back into history to see when we’ve done the others and here’s the first mention of Woodzie.

Looks like we started planning a party for Dad, Evan’s and Jack’s birthday and R2’s departure for Costa Rica and it morphed into a Woodzie. From that first mention to the day of that original Woodzie was about 10 days. We’re not as good at moving that fast anymore.
I got something out of reading that…. mosquitoes! That’s another reason not to go into May. This is going to be a monster year for bugs because of all the rain we’re having.
Gotta love reading the comments on that post, a good example of the group journal.

I’ll be going home (and possibly HK) in March (thinking around the 8th-26th). Other than that I am good for just about any Saturday right now.
Aloha

I vote for April 7. The weeksends before and after I have a ton of travel so that would be perfect for me.

I think we’re kind of leaning towards Easter weekend which would be the 7th. Speak now or forever hold your peace if that’s not good for you or if you think it’s just generally a bad idea.
Does anybody give up drinking for Lent?

That is when Renee & Randy can come, and what’s
a Woodzie without them?

I VOTE FOR THE 7 OR 14 OF APRIL…..BOTH SO FAR ARE GOOD FOR ME….WHOOT!

I’ve been calling the founders, the alumni who came to the first one and every one since and the 7th is far and away the preferred date. A few people have some scheduling problems that I hope they can work out but the other available dates were a no from almost everybody for one reason or another. But the 7th was good with 90% of everybody, actually more agreement on the date than we’ve had before.
So mark your calendar and start spreading the word … the Woodzie will be Easter Weekend the 7th and 8th of April. It’ll be great!

Can’t wait for Jimmie’s design for this year’s Woodzie! Are we going to have a separate blog again?
I’ll be making cascarones – I’ve got 7 doz eggshells so far.
