Big event in New Braunfels for more than 100 years. Kids get off from school to go to the parade/fair/carnival on Fair Friday; it’s one of the biggest days in small town life. Started out like a circus this morning for us. Evan marches with the band through town swinging a giant sousaphone on his shoulder. I had to rush him down there because he overslept. Jimmie’s helping with the float for the utility company, it was critical that she be there early to do some last minute gluing or taping but…. she ran out of gas. I was rushing to get her and got trapped behind a long, slow train. I had her on the cell phone and she herself was ready to come unglued. The incredible pressures of show business. When I got there she grabbed my arm and pulled me out then jumped in my car and sped off. I’m standing in a cloud of dust with a gas can in my hand. It was already almost 8:00 a.m. so I don’t think she had much time to duct tape the thing together – if you see a horrible float disaster on TV today, it was Jimmie. When they interview you be sure to say “Float saboteur? But she was a such a quite neighbor”. Anyway, like Uncle Raymond used to say every year about the parade….. Macy’s has nothing to worry about.
