The kids are out huntin’ down Halloween candy right now

What you see them holding are pillow cases. They’re on a mission. Evan made up his character; a “Rolling Stones Zombie”. Taylor is a vampire, he has a set of very realistic fangs that are the major part of his costume. Jessie and Ryoko are some kind of Japanese cartoon characters. Jessie’s wearing what struck me as an Elizabeth Taylor wig. Pretty scary. Taylor didn’t go last year, felt he was too old, but he came out of retirement because it’s just such a perfect night for it. I was surprised that once they decided to go they were able to pull these getups and makeup together in an hour. They truly look like a little band of wandering undead. With pillow cases.

    Happy Halloween 2007

In recent years it’s often been cold or rainy or both on Halloween but here in Central Texas this year it’s as gorgeous a day as you could hope for. It’s a happy day - people need to dress up as sunflowers and puppies. Our only problem yesterday and today is that our three giant German Shepherds have been escaping and going trick or treating around the neighborhood on their own.

As y’all may or may not know, I lost most of my best audio in an effort to back it all up – almost 500 GB or, and this hurts, more than 9,250 albums. Still working on recovery… Fortunately I’ve got dvds and nested folders on other drives for some of the stuff but still sucky nonetheless…

But fear not! And enjoy the soundtrack to last week, this weeks Episode: If: Only Eye…

    1949 Ford Convertible!. . . . . . .One Sweet Ride!

    Want one! You are looking $50,000 low ball. . . . .

    49 ford convertible.jpg

Ford’s first year for box like construction, first year for no running boards at all, improved new flat head V8 engines that crack valve seats easy, first year for 15 inch wheels and tubeless tires. Permanent antifreeze and the bumper jack. It was the first year for coil springs in the front and the old hydraulic shock gave way to the progressive shock as we know it today. This was truly a milestone automobile in looks and performance. It’s engineering design lasted 21 years and led the field up until the McPherson strut and the unibody design that took over in 1971.

    Donovan

The other day I was walkin around singin an old song and Taylor liked it. So he looked up the artist and plugged into a nice stream of tunes from the past. He and Ryoko were groovin to the lovefest that is Donovan.

Maybe the songwriter’s new project would be up his alley. Its a University in Scotland dedicated to transcendental meditation. Dig this groovy quote:

“For a country the size of Scotland it would take only 250 students meditating to protect Scotland from its enemies and to bring peace, to stop violence and drug abuse,” Lynch said. “That is just a byproduct of the students meditating together.”

And the kicker is, his partner in this endeavor is David Lynch of “Blue Velvet” fame.
    Too cool.

Recently I learned that we lost someone very special in Bulverde. Miss Dallas.

It’s been some time since she left us, but I thought I’d share my story of the brief time I knew her.

If you mouse over the right side of the player a “next track” option comes up. Or just click inside the right there where you see the edge of another album and it’ll advance the songs. It’s amazing how smoothly it animates the album covers and instantly starts the songs playing. You can click through fifty songs like nothing. When it’s coming off a decent server the way Flash so efficiently streams and caches is amazing. Stop on ones you’re interested in hearing. If nothing else, find “Waco Moon” and “Twilight”. Very mix tape worthy songs.

    Trinity has a football team?!

    Go Tigers!

When I was a freshman at Trinity back in 1985 (good God, it can’t be that long ago - can it?), it was big news when the Tigers won their first game in years. Of course, to most of us, it was bigger news that we even had a football team! That was what most people were saying all over campus - “We have a football team?!”. But the Tigers have continued to evolve as very good team over the last 20 years, even making it to the NCAA Division III finals several times. Trinity - it’s not just for tennis anymore!

    “Love What You Have!”

You might think my Mother was not very religious because she didn’t go to church every Sunday. Her prayers were quiet and quick.. . .her comments were simple and she had no political agenda.

She hung only one sign on the wall saying “God is Love” and that was it. She did not seem to need anything more. . . .

Love what you have and you will recieve everything you need. . . .If you don’t love what you have. . . .you will receive nothing. That was her doctrine. Plain and simple.

I miss seeing her and talking with her now. . . .probably more than ever. . .. but, I really don’t miss her. . . .because, She is always here.

lots of talk about this song: Killing The Blues

    October 27th, 2007 @ 20:47

churning around the family and friends group since DAP posted that Robert Plant thing last week. Here’s Jason Wilber singing “Killing The Blues”. I don’t think there’s anybody out there recording any more honestly than Jason Wilber. Everybody loves the song, it’s perfect in it’s simplicity. It was written a couple of years ago by a relatively unknown guy named Roly Salley but it’s been on enough records now that he’s bound to be getting some major love in his mailbox. Being on the Robert Plant record might buy him a house. Being on the Jason Wilber album won’t BUT…. Jason’s is far and away the best version and that’s all that’s left after the money’s spent. And a one, and a two….

    Dad was 50,
    Mom was 48,
    Ann was 18,
    I was taking the picture. . . .

Add another 51 years and Dad would be 101, Mother would be 99, and Ann would be older. . .

Dad was doing some Christmas cards featuring the San Antonio Missions and we all including Raymond Jr. out to get photos to sketch from. I wish I could get a box of those cards now. . . .

It is amazing how time enhances value. . . It becomes a precious commodity when we start running out of it and that value changes to the worth of whatever we leave down to a single smile. If we had known that in the beginning don’t you think we would all have done some things differently?

    How is this for Whipple ingenuity?. . . . . . . . . Built like a brick _ _ _ _ house!
