I’m listening to 92.1 KNBT New Braunfels radio right now. It’s Ray Wylie Hubbard’s live show Roots and Branches of Americana. His first guest was Mark Ambrose and I was very impressed with the song Shadow on the Moon. Now, Gurf Morlix is playing. But the highlight is my beloved Sam Baker. Sigh. Thought about watching it live at Tavern in the Gruene, but decided I was too tired. It’s almost as good just listening.

Gurf played with B.W. Stevenson around the time Cassell did, I’m sure Cassell knows him.
He’s been hot stuff in Americana music production for a while but he’s getting even more well known. An amazing player. He was one of the nominees this year for Americana Musician of the Year and only lost to Buddy Miller (who will have all the votes forever until they stop doing it).
He has a house somewhere near San Marcos, not far from us, where he records. He produced those first big hit Lucinda Williams CDs. He did the Slaid Cleaves records that are such a big part of Taylors musical thing. He’s done a bunch of other good stuff. This year he wrote and recorded his own thing and it’s been very successful. He’s kind of an inspiration because he was an atrocious singer just a couple of years ago but he’s gotten to be surprisingly good now.
