Whippleworld,
Thank you for contacting Geni. When a user accepts an invitation to become your friend, a separate tree is created for them. In order to add that user as a family member you will need to invite them using a different email address or have them send us a removal request directly from their existing account. Once their profile has been deleted, you can re-invite them to join your tree as a family member. Also, many users have requested the ability to merge trees. It is our intention to offer this feature. However, our timeframe is 2-3 months. Why so long? Tree merging requires us to give you the tools necessary to resolve conflicts and eliminate redundancies in trees; also greater privacy will accompany large trees.
In the meantime, what should family members do when they have started multiple trees? You can work separately, expecting to unite the trees down the road. Or you can decide to work on just one tree for now, joining the other tree with a different email address.
Thank you for using Geni,
Keith

New feature is out this days. Now it’s possible to share parts of the own tree.! It’s just great!

we got referenced here, read the paragraph on Geni:

Now that we’re supposed to know a little something about it we might want to put more effort in and try to catch up with our reputation.

Hi John,
thanks for the backlink! I had a similar problem like you with Geni and had to restart my account. The support of Geni was quite helpful.
But it is interesting that Geni has so much problems merging Family Trees, since Ancestry.com can do it already (http://blogs.ancestry.com/ancestry/2007/12/20/ancestry-hints-%e2%80%93-new-and-improved/).
Cheers from UK
