    • John : .... we should've gone to see Mitch!
    • Jimmie : Or humane.
    • John : it's 9:00 at night and 97 degrees. That ain't human.
    • John : Did everybody remember to "white rabbits" today? And don't forget that you're invited to be with us on July 4th on the Guadalupe River above Gruene. We're invading Bill and Linda's river place again this year.
    • John : Thanks Karen. Yeah, something like that only comes around once in a long time. We particularly appreciated all our good friends and family that night.
    • Karen in Hawaii~ : Lastly, am praying for South Texas to get OUT of drought. huggz~
    • Karen in Hawaii~ : To the dude that sang your song, "30 Years" way to go, Excellent! I'm smiling and thank you all for sharing.
    • Karen in Hawaii~ : Jimmie, John, your 30yrs. commemoration at Woodzie was the sweetest thing I have seen and heard in years!
    • Jack : Those are GREAT gives me some ideas in a "hold my beer and watch this" goin' to the emergency room kinda way.
    • Art : Funny. There, I fixed it! «link»
    • John : our three big old German Shepherds don't even come out from under the house unless we call them or somebody comes to the fence. The heat index is 110 degrees and these poor guys can't take their coats off. They spend their days now hiding from the burning eye in the sky.
    • Steve : I know Michael Jackson died, I know the Charlie Angel died... but did THE SPURS HAVE TO TRADE BRUCE BOWEN!!
    • John : It was 106 degrees in New Braunfels today. These are some of the highest temperatures ever for this time of year. It's scary hot.
    • John : Mom has a couple of special guests coming, too. Should be a great night. I wrote a song that we're going to play at our 35th Roosevelt High School Reunion on Saturday and Jimmie, Steve and I may give it a run through tomorrow. We may run through it or we may run over it.
    • Tyler Archer : Roland has some stuff on myspace that sounds pretty good- I'm excited and trying to pump up my fam that's coming tomorrow too :)
    • John : Well, we'll miss you. The special guest this week is Roland Garcia from San Antonio, he comes highly recommended.
    • DAP : I'm bummed I'll miss everybody! But I know you
    • Tyler Archer : More fun guests- my sister and her best friend (the other maid of honor) are coming too! Whoo-hoo!
    • Ann Pattillo : I am bringing my friend Margie with me Thursday night, it will be her first. (Interesting note; Parke delivered either 2 or 3 of her grandchildren)! She came to my 70th birthday party also. I might have some friends coming from Seguin too.
    • Tyler Archer : My dad and step mom are coming to Thursday Night Music Club this week! Whoo-hoo!
    • John : I sure look forward to Gary coming back to play at one of our things. He's great.
    • Ann Pattillo : Gary Trial of the Countrymen has been fortunate so far, because being at the very top of the country bands he has had several of the best set in for Al. They are looking for one that will stay for the duration of Al's recovery time, so they can learn the material & whatever. The Countrymen are a band that doesn't have to think or ask what they will do next it's continuous. So good luck to Al & The Countrymen.By th way Gary & Jaime Trial are brothers, and the drummer is Al's son. Very tight k
    • Ann Pattillo : Well, I have to make my monthly report on the best "good ole Country music band there is "The Countrymen" played such great music last nigh at Martinez Social Club. I danced for 3 hrs and had a ball. Bad news is that Al Mahachek (sp) fell out of his deer blind, and besides beating up his whole body, it shattered his left heel which is control heel as he plays the Steel Guitar. He will have surgery next Thursday and will be out of commission for at least 6 months. Gary has been fortunate so fa
    • MF : I don't want no pickle either....
    • John : I looked up the Erma Bombeck thing Mom, that's good. «link»
    • John : yeah, most of us grew up calling it the purrr din al iss but it's really the ped der nal iss. And yeah, Barton Springs is still the most popular swimming hole in Austin. When you last saw it it was probaby filled with hippies. Now it's filled with soccer moms and out of work dot.com-ers.
    • Karen in Hawaii~ : Do people still swim in Barton Springs pool?? I lived 10yrs. in Austin and swam in that thing a lot as a kid. Thanks for stirring some memories, and GOD BLESS Jimmie in the healing dept.
    • Karen in Hawaii~ : Wonderful posts and pics of the Pedernales (which I couldn't spell without seeing your post again cuz we called it PERNALES, lol)
    • Ann Pattillo : I am so glad Jimmie finally got that stone out. A couple of my friends have had that done & say they feel so much better. I told those boys to take good care of her and Leslie says he would. Jimmie take as long as you can. Read the Erma Bombeck things she would do over (if she could)
    • John : She got her little bandages off. It's looking good.
    • John : Jimmie's feeling pretty good. She's up and walking around. I'm going to make sure she doesn't overdo.
    • John : it's 9:00, just got Jimmie home and setup and comfortable in her own little bed. This was a day surgery gall bladder removal - Jim's had a stone for years and it just needed to go. She's very sore right now but all and all doing good. She's happy to have it done. I had a thyroid gizzard cut out last year - now that we're 50 plus, Jimmie and I are making a start on having our giblets removed.
    • DAP : Good news on the Whipple front! Jimmie is out of surgery and doing great. She'll be heading home in just a little while.
    • Malcolm : Thank you Robyn and Mark for the open invitation to the Guadalupe! Katie, Charlie, Toni & I had a blast! We only wish we could have stayed the night. On the other hand, Charlie had a great time on his first day at Football Camp and Katie is now a Brownie. :D
    • John : Gone to the river again. Come up if you can!
    • John : WOW... it's hot. Suppose to be even hotter tamale.
    • John : USAA, is SVLETLANA a common Russion name? I guess starting with SV and then just typing letters works.
    • SVLETLANA : DON'T CLICK THE LINK YOUR COMPUTER WILL GET RUSSIAN HERPES!!!
    • John : I've been deleting them each morning but notice all the new Russian spam that keeps poppin' up? I guess that's from leaving that one up to laugh at. Bad Karma.
    • Art : my eyes are o.k. but sometimes I sure think I need to get my head examined. :-?
    • Tyler Archer : Dr. Swift got a job today- who need their eyes checked? Her license is effective in August and she can start seeing patients (aka friends and relatives) then
    • John : going to the river, see you guys later!
    • John : we're going to switch to a new layout for our website here pretty soon. Besides a clearner look and faster load times, what you'll notice will be that many of the sidebar things are going to change; some will stay similar to how they are now, some will go away because they didn't work or we didn't use them and some will be replaced with better ones. I'm not sure when the urban renewal will be done but I'm working on it a little at a time. It'll be good a big improvement when it's done.
    • John : Conan's first Tonight show was that night and GM filed that morning... General Motors exactly did go broke before Conan became king of late night T.V.
    • John :
    • Steve : ten years ago people thought "GM will go belly up before Conan gets The Tonight Show" .....and now they probably feel really guilty.
    • Steve : wonder which will end up being worse for culture in general
    • John : Who ever thought General Motors would go bankrupt and Conan O'Brien would become the host of The Tonight Show....... on the SAME DAY.
    • John : sorry I wasn't there Tyler, I guess you heard - I had a rare and sudden chance to go fishing and had to grab it. I hear that everybody had a great time. Thanks for helping Jimmie with it Mike.
    • Tyler Archer : Since John wont be there tonight I went and bought my own guitar tuner :( so sad- and learned some new songs :)
    • Deirdre : Oh man! Sorry to have missed a chance to see the Rosellys. Did anyone else make it?
    • Malcolm : For those of you who are fans of The Roselly's (Rebecca & Simon), the Laven's are hosting a gathering at their home tomorrow night (Wednesday) from 5pm to midnight. As always, the bringing of favorite foods for sharing is encouraged. :P
    • Tyler Archer : Happy Monday on a Tuesday everyone! Thursday Night Music Club will be back before we know it :) They are really making the weeks fly by- its so nice to always have something to look forward to.
    • John : Mother, that was Jimmie making a comment but she did it from my computer and it was logged in under me. Then she tried to fix it and it all got deleted. What she was saying was She hopes she's doing as good as you at the age you are.
    • Ann Pattillo. : I'm getting ready to go dancing, which is at least a 3 hour chore since I am definately slowing down to crawl these days, but Jonah & willie were down in the pool & I went down to say Hello and Jonah says Grandma you look OLD. I figure I'd better check on the cremation right away when sweet innocent Jonah tells me that.
    • MF : Well then Happy Birthday Russell, and please say a little prayer for us down here. :D
    • Ann Pattillo : As I had already mentioned tomorrow is our sweet Russell's birthday and Oh how I miss him, but he & sissy are being good angels to someone.
    • John : look at this «link» TuneCore and Amazon.com are going to offer a one off "print on demand" CD service. You can have your physical CD for sale at Amazon.com without having to manufacture it. What it means is that when an order for one comes in, they have automated machines that pulls the music off their servers, burns a disc, prints the sleeve, inserts, shrink wraps and ships it in one process. Save a lot of garage space.
    • Steve : When people ask how much CDs are that's what I'll say "They're the OPPOSITE of FREE!"
    • John : that's actually not a guy, it sounds like a guy but it's Kate Bradley. She's an independent record promoter in New York.
    • Guest_7534 : like most digital things music is becoming free... but OH NO!, free is too much now! This guy says they may have to start charging "the opposite of free!". «link»
    • John : Well, last night at the Thursday Night Social started slow but it sure ended great. We had hand drums and mandolin and harmonica and Art Guillermo on the piano and a big circle of singers. Just amazing what improvement all of that and specially a well played piano can make. It felt like a band.
    • John : Wow. If you look down the list there's some Jimmy Rogers in there. Those are a very cool piece of history. His price is right, between a dollar and two dollars each is a bargain.
    • Guest_7534 : i know you guys are into old 78 records so check these for sale in wimberley. old red foley and other rare ones «link»
    • John Whipple Sr. : They say you can tell a Yankee duck from a Southern duck by some clear markings but, they all walk and swim the same :D
    • John : I guess it was like a junk mail chain letter thing. We have that feature to email an email onto the blog and it turns into a post. Google indexed it and now searches for "San Antonio Duck Story" give that post as a search result. Or something. We're doing our part to «link» Keep San Antonio LAME.
    • Casey ann : I heard on the news that the same things happened here last year there was just no video - this recent duck story did happen in Spokane. Why is it directing people to Whippleworld??? Quack!!! Is it because we are all quackes? Ha I kill myself!
    • ART : taking another city's mother duck story that's just..... lame. i'm going to move to Seguin.
    • Sara : it was just an email until it got it's own website page URL on WHIPPLEWORLD. Lok at your incoming links, I bet there are many. This issue made it all the way to SNOPES the fact checker site. Check it: «link» The original "pass this along" email went viral all over the world & faded. But you are keeping the ducks ALIVE!
    • John : this one "A True Duck Story From San Antonio, Texas" «link» only there's some question about whether it happened here or in Spokane. I wonder why somebody would change the locale? It's just as cute if it was Spokane. I guess misplaced civic pride?
    • Casey ann : What duck story?
    • Ann Pattillo : Happy Birthday dear Jimmie! Lots of love & Hugs & everything!
    • John : but that Duck post doubled the traffic for several weeks. If you're here to feed the ducks... welcome. But please know that there are 65 members of this blog who can email in and that came in on an email, I'm sure from someone thinking it was true.... but we don't vouch for it in any way. Treat it like an urban legend. San Antonio is famous for it's urban legends.
    • John : We've had a spike in visits to the blog. Caused oddly enough by that San Antonio Duck story. I get data on all the activity; there's about a hundred families around the world who read here if not every day up to every week or so. Then maybe two hundred families who come less often, about once every couple of weeks. Most all of that kind of visitor are people who know us, family and friends. Then we see a couple of thousand people a month who just wander in from topic and image searches
    • MF : .....Glenn always provides a good time and is a gracious host and deserving of the the cool suprise he is going to get. HAPPY BIRTHDAY JIMMIE!
    • MF : I met Steve Earle yesterday, Had the most killer Motorcycle ride with two super cool people, AKA John and Brad through breathtaking Texas Hill Country, ended the whole damn thing with a beautiful girl.....Life is good man, life is frickin' good! It aint over yet, for Miss Jimmie is having her 35th or so birthday, and some stupidly cool people will be there, and just in case the suspense is too much....Glen and Kim's open mic at Casbeers to tide us over until then...and Glen always provides a g
    • John : Yes ma'am, it's great. And that would be a historical fit for your wedding because you have lots of family from New Braunfels and Llano. There's different philosophies of bar-b-que - like religions. In Texas you have your Unitarian bar-b-que all the way up to your Catholic bar-b-que. Coopers would be your speaking in tongues holy roller type. Very possibly the best in the world. Before they came to New Braunfels people would drive hundreds of miles to get it in Llano. Now, and we're so lucky, it's two miles from our house.
    • Casey : Sean and I picked up the kegs today and we stopped and had lunch at Cooper's amd OMG that stuff is the sht! Sean wants them to cater our wedding now. We are in love with Cooper's! :D
    • Cara Cash King : Here is a link to a photos I said that I would be sending... John could you post them for me... thanks! :0) «link»
    • HillaryW : And it worked too! We did get to fish a bit, and dig for worms and pick up beetles and throw rocks. All that rain made it 68 degrees which caused me to break out in goosebumps! 8O
    • John : ...this is the Internet age. Mitch and Hillary were taking David to fish up in Comfort, Texas but they started to run into rain. Mitch called Jimmie and she was able to get on the weather radar site and tried to "air traffic control" them around the thunderstorms. All in real time. Satellites, WiFi, cell phones... massive power at our fingertips for free. Less technology than what was used in that one phone call put a man on the moon.
    • John : MItch and The Band put on a great show. There was a big party and the place was packed. Jimmie said "pretty please" and Joe said he'd be happy to play her birthday party at HOTEL FAUST this Thursday. Plan on coming, it'll be great.
    • John : Jimmie and I are going to ride the motorcycle up the old farm to market road to Riley's to watch Uncle Mitchie & The Swindles. Join us! Not on the motorcycle, there's no room. But at Riley's.
    • MF : lol
    • MF : "Forcing"? I though there was some strong encouragement, but no Forcing...hmmm
    • John : The Faust was great last night. Deirdre's friend Betty who does the house concerts was there and she loves it, said it has a really special feeling. Forcing people to sing is endearing. She's going to help us by sending people our way. Elaine from another house concert series came and had a great impression of it. One thing I hadn't thought of before is that people practicing at our Thursday night thing might get some house concerts gigs. This is house concert training camp.
    • MF : Vann is da man!
    • Steve : saw your link to MOON, thanks. Watch this «link» it's the other end of the spectrum
    • John : it's been our practice to let the Woodzie website sleep during the year... I'll check it maybe once a month to remove spam and stuff. It's that time to start letting it lay so if anybody wants to have a look at it and make any final comments here it is: «link» Get the last words in. After this it's probably better to make any mid-year Woodzie related comments here.
    • John : I stand as far away as I can whenever the topic comes up. But I feel very strongly about medium gauge guitar strings.
    • Kelli : I have almost 50 videos posted on youtube. I must not worry about it too much!!! What I really want to know is where you stand on gay marriage!
    • John : I know you're in the video creation business, do you worry a lot about that stuff? Me, I don't think YouTube or the others are planning anything dastardly - I think their lawyers are covering their butts.
    • Kelli : ok, there...
    • Kelli : «link»
    • Kelli : Hey, John...users beware summed up nicely here
    • Ann Pattillo : I had a wonderful Mother's Day thanks to everyone. You know last week I danced 3 hrs Wed night, 3hrs Sat when it was so hot, and Sunday afternoon for 3hrs. I challenge anybody to do that with me. But the sad thing is, it is not enough. I am going to have to get some kind of help with my food issue. There isn't any food I really want anymore isn't that sad, I always loved food. Well I'm ready for our next get together, which I guess is THURSDAY at the beautiful "FAUST HOTEL".
    • MF : "calender pages fall from the wall...." Great job yesterday at Omaha's and thanks for bringing Brads Axe. :D
    • Art : they must be running around like a chicken with it's head cut off
    • John : Kentucky Fried Chicken company says "Dang, who knew there was so many people on this Internet thing!" and has to stagger Oprah's free lunch. «link»
    • John : we have quite a few lost and found items from The Woodzie. We'll bring them to HOTEL FAUST tonight. We'll also bring some t-shirts if anybody needs one or wants to get another.
    • John : Oprah is giving you a free lunch. You have to print the coupon now or by tomorrow at the latest. «link»
    • Casey Ann : Sean and I want to call our area Marshallville
    • John : Well, Mr. Evan has his own Woodzie within the Woodzie with all his High School buddies on a big area of the ridge called "O.J. Land". Then Glenn and them have "Allantown" with a big community of tents. Then some people stay near "The Boneyard"... the Woodzie is so spread out - that's why it's rare to see more than 50 or 60 people at one place at one time... they're all over the 30 acres. Notice how when you looked out people were walking up and down the trails and through the trees? Goin' places.
    • Ann Pattillo : Don't get tired of me going on & on about the Woodzie, there are too many people to recognize. But I thought that Casey(my angel) did a beautiful job of keeping the music flowing. Taylor did a great job reading the vows, a grandma just has to brag a little bit. I think Grace had a really good time, and Jonah was in 7th heaven playing with all the kids. Evan I missed totally, and Tyler was having a wonderful time.
    • Ann Pattillo : Chris did his usual wonderful sound magic. He's just great! What would a Woodzie be without him? I won't even think about that ever happening, and I don't think he would either. We love you Chris!
    • Ann Pattillo : It was so good to see & hear "Thoze Guys" from Sweetwater. They just love anything having to do with John Whipple & his music events. I sure do appreciate them & love their music. You thought they were good Sat night, you ought to hear them totally cranked up, I am a loyal fan I guess anybody can tell. Hello!
    • Ann Pattillo : The Best Man at the wedding 30 yrs ago (in the light blue suit) was Russell Whipple
    • Ann Pattillo : This year's Woodzie was the BEST ever! All the music was great. Wasn't Renee just great, and her sister did her part just great also. Everybody was having such a wonderful time, and clearly enjoying the setting of such a warm gathering of friends, making new friends, looking forward to the next one. Thank you each & everyone that worked so hard to make the "2009 Woodzie" so memorable.
    • MF : Too may people to thank...off the top...Kim and Jennifer for the cowboy breakfast...YOU and Jimmie, Glen...ALL the people who brought food, and the saint that brought the bacon! Sip is most def on the list, Chris M, Macolm...Thank you EVERYBODY. :D
    • John : weren't the projection screens cool? Thanks so much for that Malcolm and Toni. That was a real treat for everybody.
    • John : Thanks! And HAPPY WOODZIE DAY everybody around the world! It all starts now....
    • Kelli King : Y'all have a great woodzie! I predict no rain and lots of red meat! Get your forks on! Have extra fun for me...and happy belated birthday Deidre! ANd ANNIVERSARY John and JIMMIE!!
    • John : OK.... Evan and I are heading over to HOTEL FAUST with the new P.A. system. Tonight's Deirdre's big birthday party! Jump in the car and zoom up here.
    • John : well, they've closed Evan's school for the next two weeks. Very unusual.
    • John : well..... they did their best. Now we have to hope that Dallas goes all the way. And that's EVEN THOUGH Cuban fired Avery. :!:
    • Ann Pattillo : Everybody needs to root for the Spurs tonight. Even if you are mad at the way they have played in particular games, just think of what Pop has had to go through this year with injuries. He is a great coach & they are a great team, so GO SPURS !!
    • Mia : GO MAVS! WHOOT! :D
    • John : yes ma'am!
    • Casey Ann : They lifted the burn ban?!? Can we have fires now???
    • Ann Pattillo : Tomorrow is a very big day, it was 30 years ago that I got my wish and Leslie & Jimmie got married. It was one of the happiest days of my life and I wore my sun glasses the during the whole service. I know it was so my crying wouldn't be so noticeable and I just plain forgot I had them on. I was so embarrassed later. Tomorrow is also Kim's birthday and I hope she has a great one. I am looking forward to my dear friends Gary & Susie Trial coming to the Faust thursday night. Susie will sing some
    • John : yeah, everybody come out to the HOTEL FAUST Thursday for DAP's Bday, it's going to be great!! Deirdre gets to have her sister Renee as featured artist - can't beat that on your birthday! AND they'll be some last minute Woodzie talk you'll want to be in on.
    • Ann Pattillo : I am planning a big birthday party for Deirdre at the Thursday Night Music at the Faust. I am so excited that Renee will be coming in from New Mexico by way of Austin.
    • John : Kelli, are you going to find an old beatnik coffee shop in Greenwich Village for the Old Crow Boys to come play?
    • Kelli : HI Y'ALL!!! I love and miss you somethin' fierce! Keep it texas.
    • MF : Rain Rain go away...the Woodzie is here in just 5 days...
    • John : they went south. way south... Dallas forced them off the road. I was really confident we could beat Dallas in this first round but it's pretty hard to feel that way now.
    • Jimmie : Oooops. they went
    • Jimmie : GO SPURS GO!!!!
    • Tyler Archer : Greetings from Orlando- its beautiful and I think I want to live in a "vacation resort" when I grow up everyone is invited cause its too much fun for just me :)
    • John : Uncle Raymond gave us a Playschool log cabin to give to David when he was little. To make room for his swingset we got it back. I had David out here this morning and he walked up to it and lovingly said "I want this back". I had to get down on one knee and tell him that in the mortgage crisis lots of boys had had their log cabins repoed.
    • MF : The Thursday night Chautauqua was awesome as ever. Dan was truly the man.
    • Casey Ann : I'm sitting at home. Sean is at Fiesta at the Whitti Museum - he ran into Tyler. I didn't go b/c I knew I couldn't resist the temptation. Sean got VIP passes and went w/ his buddies. Sean was kind enough to tell me all about the free sushi and grey goose. I am sad. I had grilled chicken and water.
    • John : Really appreciate your help, Mom. Everybody's going to enjoy their shirts.
    • Ann Pattillo : Taylor, grandma has 52 T shirts for you. Man, I am too pooped to go dancing tonight my friend Sandra & I rose to the occasion & went T shirting 2 days in a row! We have our's all folded very neatly and are ready to be printed. Just like those in the picture every color. It was fun, hope to see you Thursday unless you are working. Congrat's on the job. Love you grandma
    • MF : Rode for 5 hours...didnt even know it.....my butt is numb! Love my Harley!
    • John : Google is so wild, they have so much money. They own YouTube and so they're mixing video and search by converting the speech in all the billions of YouTubes to text and making that searchable. So you enter the word "guitar" or "shoe" or whatever and it finds video that has that word in it. Try it. «link»
    • John : Yeah, you're exposed. Obviously any little slip up isn't a fender bender like in a car, it's a major thing.
    • MF : I am back from my first Harley ride. Bugs in my teeth and I passed Brads mini cycle safety class. I felt like a worm among huge feet trying to avoid being squashed. It is spooky John, you are right.
    • John : Come on Spurs, even it up!
    • John : you know where a lot of Harley riders enjoy their latte? The coffee shop of the Northeast Baptist Hospital. I'm just sayin, it goes against your nature but on a bike you're the little guy. A Yugo can run you over.
    • MF : I could just get a Vespa! I could ride it to the coffee shop to get a latte....
    • John : be careful on that Harley, Mike. It's dangerous out there.
    • John : renewal date sounds like we're coming to the end of our warranty. :D
    • John : No, we're going to do it as a part of the Woodzie on May 2nd.
    • Ann Pattillo : Son the anniversary is the 28th that's Tuesday, is that the renewal date?
    • Guest_3935 : Ill be riding a Harley soon....woo hooo
    • Tyler Archer : I'm blonde! (like Deirdre says she was when younger- I wanna see proof!)
    • John : This rain is great, don't get your hopes up on a lifting of the burn ban, Comal County moves really slowly on changes to that. But what it will do for sure is make the woods look even greener and more beautiful for the big weekend!!
    • John : what a nice rain! Jimmie's taking off for the weekend to be with her group of girlfriends. They call themselves the "Brassy Broads" which should give you an idea of the tenor of their outings.
    • Ann Pattillo : Is that our Pat talking? Whatever you said had to be true!!!
    • John : I'm seeing all these absolutely gorgeous days go by and on each one I'm thinking "I wish The Woodzie was now, we'd be winning the weather lotto".
    • John : aaaaaaaaamen!!
    • Deirdre : I love it!
    • Pat Sigel : betwixt now and 2 May to string guitars, gather wenches, chop cedar, macramé hammocks, behead hogs, and pray for rain.) Upon affirmative vote of this Assembly, we may then begin to Woodzie 5 days hence, with nothing standing in the way but a brace each of Saturdays and Sundays, all extraneous days having been banished. What say ye, Good People? Can I get an Amen?!!!?
    • Pat Sigel : Point is, there's abundant precedent for what I'm about to propose...] Be it known amongst all the Citizenry that a motion is hereby brought before this Assembly, to whit: that the following dates and days shall forthwith, forever, and without regret be deleted from this present year of 2009: 16 & 17 April; 20-24 April; and 27-30 April. Also, to hell with 1 May. (Be it noted that only weekday/workday dates are to be disappeared--we shall most assuredly need all remaining weekend days betwixt n
    • Pat Sigel : At midnight on 2 September, 1752, 11 days were summarily dropped from calendars throughout the English-speaking world. People went to sleep and, when they awoke the next morning, the date had changed to September 14. There were riots in rural villages--people thought that George II had stolen 11 days from their lives. [He was just trying to catch up with the rest of the world, which had long abandoned the Julian calendar for the Gregorian--but don't confuse us with facts! : ) Point is, there's
    • John : good one, Casey.
    • Casey : Phil Spector has also been found guilty of bad hair.....
    • MF : Phil Spector was found guilty of Murder. «link»
    • John : Riley's is on for tonight. Several people are coming up to the Woodzie site today to orgainze a little. If anybody wants to drive up you could both make an inspection of the site and stop by Riley's. I'm going to bar-b-que and take what's left over to the tavern tonight.
    • Jimmie : I'm going out to work in the woods, come join me if you'd like!
    • DAP : The Episcopalian blues were definitely something else; Jimmie is so much cooler than me, she heard "I ain't never heard you play no blues" while I heard the Rockpile version of "I hear you knockin'".
    • MF : Episcopalian Blues, rice Crispy balls, song circles, Fond farewells, tears, LOTS of food, laughs....I agree. It doesn't get much better. This is a great lead up to the Woodzie! :D
    • Jimmie : It was a very special night at the Faust. I'm happy with how the event is panning out.
    • John : I tell you what, the Thursday Night Music Club has turned out to be one of the coolest things we're doing. I'm so pleased with it.
    • John : We're going to be working out in the Woodzie site this weekend.
    • Tyler Archer : is it 5 yet? I'm ready to head on out to NB!
    • John : Getting ready for tonight at the HOTEL FAUST. Come on out! Kelli King is the featured performer.
    • John : I forgot.... we don't have a links list in the sidebar anymore. You know, we're coming up on time to modernize this layout to one of the new ones that use widgets. The Woodzie site is an example. On that site adding a sidebar feature just takes a second. On this old site it's a major coding endeavor.
    • John : here's the link again, I'll try to get it in the Links section later. «link» If you go there, click on register and you can use the same info you use for Whippleworld but you have to register it first.
    • DAP : Hey Leslie - can you put the Woodzie link in the "featured links"? Also, shouldn't my Wordpress login work on that site?
    • John : Who left the air conditioner on last night? That had to have been close to a record low. All this fresh new green spring growth could have been set back in a freeze. And we were within a couple of degrees from it. Of course very few wild flowers this year because of the intense drought. Crazy weather.
    • John : good luck with that
    • Art : all you have to do is get a song on a car commerical. Purdy is not really anybody very well known but he had a song used in a Kia TV spot and they used one of his songs as the music on a episode of lost. SEE, IT'S EASY! just do those two things. but he seems cool «link»
    • John : Casey and Sean took Evan and I to see Bruce Springsteen in Austin last night. It was great - about three quarters of the way through they kicked into Born To Run and it was as good a moment in a concert as I've ever seen. The place just about exploded. Evan's been front row at the Stones and now Springsteen so he's getting experienced.
    • John : It's great that they've paid out 100 million dollars - they're probably the best thing out there. Their heart's always been in the right place. «link» But of course divide the 100 million they've paid out since they started by the number of members who have ever participated and that will be the average. Yep... probably "$15 or $23 dollars" at the most.
    • Jack : says here "Joe Purdy", whoever that is, made over a half a million selling CDs on CD Baby. «link» Seems like everybody else makes 15 or 23 dollars. Or none. I wonder how he has made it work?
    • MF : another Casey possibility: «link»
    • John : Jimmie and I had a great time. That was great cowboy food and everybody was so laid back and in such great spirits; I loved it. Thanks to everybody for coming.
    • Malcolm : I second Mike's sentiments and thank Jimmie and John for last night! The weather was perfect and the company divine. :D
    • MF : John, thank you and Jimmie again for a hell of a night in the woods. What a great thing. You are king of campfire songs. Jimmie's hard work paid off, and it;s going to be beautiful for the Woodzie. I think the dead pioneers were happy with the show
    • John : Let's do the mini-Woodzie tomorrow starting at about 4:00. Any and everybody is welcome. We'll be bar-b-queing and looking over the Woodzie making plans for what needs to be done to get ready for May 2nd. I'll have a fire going, bring meat.
    • John : the Woodzie site is up and running at «link»
    • MF : What time is the mini Woodzie Reconnaissance mission occurring tomorrow Big John? Patrick was squealing with anticipation :D
    • MF : When is the Woodzie Blog coming online?
    • John : practicing following the person leading the song - trying to blend into their rhythm and building up that sense where you can anticipate the chord changes is the best practice in the world for a guitar player. I'm loving the practice and I'm getting better at it every week. I hope Grace and Tyler and Casey and others will see it as great practice time. You have to get it somewhere.
    • Deirdre : I was very proud of Tyler, especially since I've never really seen her play guitar. Grace enjoyed the song circle.
    • Deirdre : hitting send too fast!
    • Deirdre : Taylor was great, as always. And I was
    • Deirdre : I don't think Dan and Renee dated but they had a mutual admiration society.
    • John : Casey, maybe Mom and I will go.
    • CASEY ANN : Seriously does anyone want to go to Bruce Springsteen this Sunday - how about 50 bucks a ticket I'm desperate!!!!
    • MF : Dan went out with Rene?!? Wow....I give an honorable mention to Tyler and Taylor
    • John : you know who tore it up last night was Renee's old boyfriend Dan. I thought his version of Railroad Worksong was awesome. Decidedly non-Episcopalian .
    • DAP : Exactly. Amen.
    • John : Deirdre dictionary: Episcopalian. Bland. Oddly not Baptist. Not wild enough to be Catholic. Possibly some derivative of Methodist... only whiter.
    • Malcolm : Okay, you've got my curiousity piqued. What is an "Episcopalian" suggestion?
    • Tyler Archer :
    • Deirdre : Tyler Alyse, I know your Mother did not raise you to whine like that! Cowboy up!
    • Tyler Archer : Why can't I just be a spectator? I participate when I know the song- and y'all laughed at my last "Episcopalian" suggestions as Deirdre called them but I have more suggestions I can't accompany myself well I get distracted by either my singing or the guitar :(
    • Tyler Archer : y'all both suck :???: I'll think of something
    • John : we'll take what we can get
    • Tyler Archer : Deirdre you suck but I don't have one to practice on- I'll play the cannon in D
    • John : busted! I'll have the piano pulled out and ready to go!
    • Deirdre : Caught ya, Tyler! There's a piano at the Faust. No excuses young lady!
    • Tyler Archer : Thanks but I can play piano way better than I can play guitar but pianos aren't portable- and my mom sold our piano with our last house  I'll try to be better with my guitar though since I wont be getting another piano for a while
    • John : I'm going to get all tuff love here: people who have great voices like yours and Taylor's have a responsibility to learn to accompany yourself on guitar or piano. There's just no justification not to do it. Casey's on it, you guys need to get on it.
    • MF : well Tyler.....they can be pretty....just short.
    • Tyler Archer : But I like having pretty finger nails :(
    • John : Yeah that's not good.... I don't think you'd find a single spec of dust gathering on your little sister Grace's guitars. Borrow some of her guitar playing ambition! 8O
    • Tyler Archer : oooh I'm so embarrassed about my guitar- when I was putting it in its case this morning it had sooo much dust on it- I'm a bad guitar owner :(
    • John : Tyler, bring it to The Faust. We'll put some new strings on it and show you a couple of chords.
    • Tyler Archer : I have a pretty blue guitar sitting in my dining room collecting dust- it makes me sad to look at it :( it wants to be played
    • MF : Well that seems pretty smart. That Masterbuilt is a great guitar....well built and it just sounds great. I just wasnt sure how much Miss Casey wanted a pretty guitar. I want a Masterbuilt too....fantastic guitar....Michae l Nero knows how to polish them out to make them shine if she wants that
    • John : Yeah, Mike I got the link, thanks. I called the kid last night and he wants to do it and I emailed Casey and she thought about it but just doesn't want a black guitar. I'd do the deal anyway but I have several snare drums that are really expensive and several that are in parts but I just don't have a ready to go under $200 snare drum. Like me, Casey really likes Brad's Masterbuilt. Even thought it doesn't have any ornimentation that's kind of what we're thinking right now.
    • MF : John, I sent you this link...I am sure you have an old snare laying around «link»
    • John : Does everybody know that fishing permits in Texas are as much as $45 now? I got my shiny new one and didn't catch a minnow all weekend. If they're going to keep raising the price they should have a scuba diver down there putting fish on your hook. That would be a good public works project.
    • Casey Ann : oh cool, I was wondering when you guys came back. Sean and I had a great time. We need to go again soon so we can use our shiney new fishing licenses =)
    • Guest_5874 : i discovered "ted talks" from whippleworld. thought I would return the favor. here's a listing of every one ever made with a synopsis and a live url to take you to it. «link» have a great day!!!
    • John : the boys and I are back from our little four day vacation. Taylor and Evan are great to be with. And the three of us really enjoyed the time spent with Casey and Sean.
    • Ann Pattillo : Today at Oma's Secret Beergarten was just beautiful. It was to celebrate Tyler's birthday, it was such fun having Michael (her dad)there. But the weather was gorgeous, I didn't even get too cold. Of course, I did get my birthday present from Jimmy today, it is her Masterpiece. The colors are gorgeous & the bling added the perfect touch to my new going out shawl. Oh yes, the band that played (except for playing too loud)was so good. You have probably all heard them before but this was my first
    • Ann Pattillo : Thursday night after returning from a great time at the Faust, I was listening to Larry king Live & like him or not, he had an American Security person & a Mexican Authority on who both asked that no one go into Mexico for any reason At This Time. It is very dangerous & until they can get some of the Cartel activity slowed down its just not safe, & there's no way to guarantee a safe return. So $100.00 could wind up costing the most valuable
    • MF : John check this out for Casey «link»
    • John : I got this email. A weeklong songwriting retreat in Mexico for $100. You have to be like a volunteer doing some research. Check it out: «link» The little animation of the trombones is worrisome but otherwise sounds interesting. The person doing it is a doctor of some kind.
    • John : Yeah. I guess he's not thinking of that - that's why they've always been dove tail, it'll slide up and out when you need it to. Shouldn't try to out think the oldtimers. But it does look like a an extra stable joint.
    • MF : Looks like it would be really tough to do a neck reset someday.
    • John : look at how this neck is set «link»
    • Ann Pattillo : it the Paul Jones) my partner & I dance every dance without sitting down, so I don't need that. But he dances it. He will be 79yrs old on May 7th!
    • Ann Pattillo : My monthly or bi-weekly report on the "Countrymen", is that they are still singing & playing as good as ever. I missed one dance, except I don't do the stroll(you form a line & dance with the next one up-some call
    • John : better get ready to do your own radio promotion «link»
    • Art : could use the money  «link» to buy a Pepsi or something.
    • MF : ....make it sound as good as any high end guitar, with the right pickup installed. Factory pickups on mid and lower priced guitars suck, even though the guitar is quite serviceable
    • MF : I like the MasterBuilt. So does Michael Nero, and Brad. I found his after a lot of hunting, so I might can dig something up. These are always here too «link» I think you should buy one without a pickup and choose a pickup for the guitar seperatly. You can get a guitar thats not as expensive and with careful pickup selection, make it soun
    • John : I like this guitar «link»
    • John : that was just the picture, here's the whole story on those Epi Hummingbirds «link» and on the picture link you have to hit previous photo to see the sunburst one.
    • John : thanks Steve, that's very kind. Mike... Casey's first choice would be a Gibson Hummingbird. Of course that's out of the price range so I'm going to suggest one of these Epiphone Humminbirds «link» or an Epiphone Masterbuilt like Brads. Ought to have her play Brads so she'll hear how great it feels and sounds.
    • MF : John, the beans and rice were great, they would have been better with a side of Miss Jimmie. The Guitar hunt is on! 8-)
    • Steve : I like this site. You people have a lot of interesting experiences there in Texas.. nice of this group to create and keep this webpage. I am in Germany and love Texas and early country blues. I have also seen your YouTube channel. Here's a link for other blues fans «link»
    • John : even though the economy in general is awful and the music industry in specific is even worse, we had a successful Tejas VIP Party. The line this year didn't go around the block until 11:00, an hour after that usually happens which was weird; this year was a late starter. As I'd hoped, the Tejas Brothers did a great unplugged set that was a highlight. Kind of like when we had Del Castillo, people were scratching their heads wondering what that was.
    • Jimmie : My dad sold Datsuns when I was a kid. Loved that Z car.
    • nissanauto : Just try to guess... I think nissan is good.
    • Ann Pattillo : Son, our rep from Fox TV just left the house & of course I was talking music to him, & he brought up Garth Hudson in talking about Levon Helm & I said let me show you something. I showed up the picture of you & Garth & he was delighted that it was such a great picture, & that he is making another album. Being more than a little predjudiced I did have to point out the very good looking one. (Sorry Garth)....
    • John : yeah, I think that's the thing to do. Renee and I were on the phone talking about it when I imported all that and I should have taken her advice no to do it. When I have some time later I try to delete all that stuff.
    • Malcolm : I'll help in any way I can, just not sure what that would be. One suggestion is to start with a blank canvas and let it build from there. You could always put a link to last year's site for reference.
    • John : yeah, here's the beginning of it. I inported the data from last year. I think that might have been a mistake. I can dump all that out. Look at it and tell me what you think. I could really use your help with it. «link»
    • Malcolm : Is it Woodzie blog time yet? 8O
    • Malcolm : I tried to post on the Waves entry but it's not taking my update. Thank you for the kind words. John, we now have REAL content at the www.BlindMuskrat ts.com web site! 8-)
    • Ann Pattillo : Happy Bithday, Hilary & Vann
    • MF : Well Then....Happy Birthday Hillary Webb!
    • DAP : I also heard that it is Hillary's birthday. Happy happy to Vann and Hillary!
    • MF : Happy birthday Vann Allen!
    • DAP : I guess I'm going to have to wire the whole house to start catching Jonah's awesomeness on video. This morning as he was brushing his teeth he got toothpaste all around his mouth and said, "I got a moo-stache. I Uncle Leslie!". Once he washed it off he said, "Okay, no more Uncle Leslie."
    • John : Eric... what a treat. Very good to hear from you. Hope you're doing well!
    • sidewind69 : hope everyones well there, surely miss texas,eric (sidewind69@idwo rld.net
    • sidewind69 : just wanted to say greetings from sunny Beantown! yea i moved up here, doing crazy stuff , what an adventure the life is!
    • sidewind69 : John Eric here from way back when
    • John : so glad you do that Canjun dancing Mom!
    • Josh Whipple : Found you guys through Facebook. If you are a fan of The Band as I can tell you are 8-) then you should like this photo gallery, some famous shots and some never published «link»
    • Ann Pattillo : as I was going to say it mean trash in Cajun talk. We do some good things every year, tonight we voted to donate to the Leukemia cancer fund. We also dance...dance it is great fun & wonderful people.
    • Ann Pattillo : HI son, I visited with 2 of my favorite people at the "De Fa Tra"s" Cajun dance tonight. Gary & Susie Trial of the best country band "The Countrymen". They are so loved by everybody, he is our treasurer. It's pretty funny but "De Fa Tras
    • John : "Concrete Houses: How They Were Built" by Harvey Whipple 1920. «link»
    • John : well, it has rained here in the Hill County off and on for four days. It may not be the end of this year long drought but at least it's a break in it. Our place is mostly Elms and the Elm trees have exploded in green.
    • MF : I am sorry...Tyler... I forgot how to spell. You played the Martini beautifully :D
    • MF : you need to bring your Kazoo next time Taylor!
    • Tyler Archer : I had so much fun last night with y'all and will totally come back and try to drag my parents along :)
    • MF : this link is for Casey Whipple...congra ts on the new guitar! «link»
    • John Whipple Sr. : Sounds like Ole' man Faust and the Casper Kid may loose top billing. . . 8-)
    • MF : John, Mitch was Awesome, cousin Kev, Taylor, Jimmie, Brad...of I was swingin' kung fu...Casey....fu n night at the old hotel. Good times! We jus need a Glen or two
    • John : nothing to be sorry about silly! I love the video.... I'm getting ready to go hunting out in the tool shed for a shoplight to shine on our mugs tonight. I like the red but it might be little much all night. Mitch is coming, bring your lyrics for him.
    • Kelli : Opps. I don't know how to do this...sorry!
    • Kelli : «link»
    • Kelli : ...another one from the night at the faust!
    • MF : Thanks for the opportunity Biggie! Glad your back in the hood safe and sound!
    • Biggie G : Mike, I'm glad you had a successful night at Riley's.
    • Biggie G : Ann, you crack me up!
    • Tyler Archer : whoo-hoo my spring brek officially starts today at 5! yay!
    • John : wow... as I was just typing that the cold front blew in. Went from 70 degrees to "damn, I better shut these windows" in just a matter of seconds. But as it hits this humid air it'll spark the thunderstorms. We haven't had any thunder all year and that's strange for Texas. I hope we have a big show.
    • John : They say we have a chance for some decent rain these next two days. We sure need it. The Woodzie grounds need some so it will green up a little.
    • MF : The main fun was you and Miss Jimmie, she sure can belt out the blues
    • John : yeah, it was a great night. Glenn called from New York this morning and I gave him the whole scoop. He was very happy that you did so well in his absence. The extra crowd from two big birthday parties? in one night? That never happens. You earned it but I'd still buy at least one lotto ticket.. some of that's extra lucky money.
    • MF : that was a freakin fun night at Rileys...one for the record books!
    • DAP : Mike - the spirit was willing but the flesh is entirely too allergy-ridden. Break a leg!
    • MF : wooohooo!
    • Jimmie : I'm a'comin tonite, Mike.
    • MF : For the love of God and Whiskey, please come out to Riley's Tavern tonight! I will be guest hosting Glen Allen's open mic, and those are some MIGHTY big boots to fill! so please come, John is bringing BBQ and maybe even Miss Jimmie! around 7:30 or 8pm. Take exit 196 off of 35 and go west, its on your left a mile or so down the road!
    • John : OK, I'll call.
    • MF : No John. We better call.
    • John : You did pick up the Unicorn guitar I left for you?
    • John : I was very happy with that first night. There were more people than I expected for such short notice - if we can keep that number of people coming it'll be great. Thanks for your help in bringing the P.A. Mike.
    • MF : The Whipple Family musical Gala went quite well I think. What a great location. You could almost feel the ghosts in the room.
    • John : Who Watches The Watchmen? Taylor and Evan Watch The Watchmen! They're at the midnight movie San Antonio premier. It's a big deal particularly to Evan. I hope they like it.
    • John : You and Jimmie are Make Magazine fans. Our friend David Priest went to The Maker's Fair in Austin this past year. Jimmie was dying to go but we had something else that weekend. You probably know about it, it's like Mecca for the Make Magazine and over all D.I.Y. crowd. You'll have to ask David about it sometime.
    • Malcolm : You just had to know there would be one of these: «link»
    • Ann/mom : Can't say much on anything these days, but i will say if I was young I would say the DOBRO man wasHOT
    • John : that's cool Mike. As you saw, that keyboard players from George Strait's band brought us eight cigars boxes to Riley's. We have the materials. The neck is the only tricky part, the rest looks easy.
    • MF : «link»
    • MF : John...check this out! Mojo daddy cigar box guitars!«link» ww.daddy-mojo.co m/
    • Tyler Archer : whoo-hoo I'm addicted to OSNs they're addictive and I keep finding the most interesting articles about how to use them in Higher Ed- I feel like such a nerd some days
    • John : Well you had such great success getting a bunch of us on FaceBook I guess we'll all be Twittering next. You're the Pied Piper of social media! :P
    • Tyler Archer : y'all I am loving this twitter thing- I know y'all haven't fully embraced it yet, but its soooo much fun :)
    • MF : Lynnes dad is awesome! The Real Deal Dick Realander! I just met him and am already going to miss him!
    • Ann/mom : I heard Paul Harvey friday on my way to pick up Grace. I can't get 92.1 in NB, so I listen to 98.1 in Austin KBET & he was on about 4:35 give or take a few min's. I loved Paul Harvey & have listened to him so many years, (taped or not), that it will be strange knowing he's gone. But you know what, he'll be on somewhere forever!!!
    • John : no problem, I fixed it. Nothing ever happens here that can't be fixed.
    • Karen/Hawaii : I am apologizing for making your excellent website look goofy under the "Hawaii Chair" thread. I didn't mean to double post, very sorry. Dingbat, over and out.
    • Karen/Hawaii : Amen on Paul Harvey being missed. Hope he's flying with angels.
    • Karen/Hawaii : John, that's so cool that you go to the wharf in Port A! Well, if you bump into Bobby, his wife Sharon or brother-in-law who's name escapes me, but the guy's married to Bobby's sister, Jeannette, have fun telling them you chat with their cuz, Karen in Hawaii. I haven't seen any of them since my mom's funeral in Dec. of 97, sigh.
    • Jimmie : I too loved Paul Harvey. Godspeed.
    • MF : Harvey died on February 28, 2009, at the age of 90 after being taken to a hospital in Phoenix, Arizona. He died while surrounded by family and friends. His son, Paul Harvey Jr., said "millions have lost a friend" in response to his father's passing. The cause was not immediately known. Former President George W. Bush was quick to comment on the passing of Paul Harvey: "Laura and I are saddened by the death of Paul Harvey. Paul was a friendly and familiar voice in the lives of millions of Am
    • MF : Paul Harvey died today....I loved Paul Harvey...what a shame....God Bless Paul and his family...and one last time " good day"

    • John : It was a ton of fun. Thanks for having us Glenn and Lynne. For those who didn't get to meet Lynne's Dad and hear his awesome dobro playing, he'll be playing with Glenn and Kim at Oma's tomorrow afternoon (Sunday)and he'll be there with us at Riley's tomorrow night. He's a great guy, he came all the way from New York so come spend some time with him!
    • MF : The Glennzie needs to be a new tradition...and Dick needs to be there!
    • Ann/mom : We had a great time at Glenn & Lynn's home last evening, the food, music, fire, family & friends are just wonderful. It was so nice to meet Lynn's father and I think he has a beautiful voice, too bad he didn't sing more. Anyway, thanks again.
    • MF : I think it's just the cold medicine talking....or maybe...I have reached enlightenment... .Nyquil is an interesting concoction 8O
    • John : Yes, if you come to enlightenment and see the Chihuahua King it's a safe bet some of your excess beer will spurt out your nose. :D
    • MF : If you ever reach total enlightenment while you're drinking a beer, I bet it makes beer shoot out your nose.
    • MF : I hope if dogs ever take over the world and they choose a king, they don't just go by size, because I bet there are some Chihuahuas with some good ideas. :D
    • John : I'm looking forward to it, too. I'm bringing a pot of borracho beans.
    • MF : The Glen-Zie is gonna be cool...I am almost over this cold....will and vitamin C!
    • John : Yeah Mom... it ebbs and flows on the old blog.
    • John : A lot of six degrees of separation, Karen. I go to Fisherman's Wharf in Part A all the time. And Leif and I worked together at United Audio Recording.
    • Ann/mom : What are ya'll up to? It's very quiet on this message box.Tiffany grandma is thinking about you. Call me.
    • Karen/Hawaii : thanks~
    • Karen/Hawaii : Port Aransas, Fisherman's Wharf...Bobby Grumbles, one of the owners and boat pilots is my first cousin, I"m as much Grumbles as he is. So...cool to have found your site and lastly, what a TEXAS blessing it is.
    • Karen/Hawaii : Now...I wonder who all in South Texas we both may know. I do have relatives living in New braunfels. If y'all know ANYone with the last name of "Grumbles" that's my close cousins, aunts or uncles, for example.
    • Karen/Hawaii : John, about y'all having so many friends with connections to Hawaii....I had forgotten how Jimmie & you also knew Leif and how we even signed the Memorial Book next to each other.
    • MF : John...its a good thing to rescue a friend with the whiskey wobbles....we should switch to unleaded.... The old Crow Blues...they key is not to drink a shot that has too much color in...a flourecent blue or pink shot is always bad news..... :D
    • John : I have a CD cover design due in the morning so I may be out of circulation today. :(
    • John : Remember... think about skipping the potato salad. That's money that can be spent on adding a little slice of sirloin to your pork loin. IMO. 8O
    • Jimmie : He and Kim are there 2-4.
    • MF : Biggie G...you are playing at Omaha Greensleeves today? Want to go eat and Coopers and then check you out...
    • Biggie G : The best part is buying BBQ from Mama San (that's what they actually call her) the owner/manager. What a hoot. Like Al on Happy Days.
    • Biggie G : Bun N Barrel is now owned by Tong's Thai and has been restored to all it's former glory, intact. Tong's rented their building (Which used to be a bar, the first I ever played in SA.) for years, evenyually bought it, then last year they bought the Bun N Barrel property. They fixed the neon, painted, redecotared inside ('50's motif) and it's as good as new.
    • John : Great, we'll show up with something tasty to go along with chopped. I happened to walk into the Bun 'n' Barrel in the days after the old family sold it. Is it back up and running normally? From Mr. and Mrs. Webb and my Mom and Dad and Cassell and Becky and Jimmie and Mitch and down to Casey and further down to Vann.... we've all known that S.A. landmark. What's happening there?
    • Biggie G : Well, I've been cleaning up my firepit area and decorating... So it's my house, Fri the 27th, 7ish 'til they kick us out. Beer, booze and light snacks. I'll get a little bucket o' that crazy good Bun 'n' Barrel chop bbq, a pile of tortillas and Mexican beer. Robyn is bringin' some Dickel for Dick. Y'all want anything else...bring it! Pass the werd!!
    • John : That sounds good to me! I certainly want to play with Lynne's Dad. I've been hearing great stories for years. Glenn, if the weather's good and you want to do it at the Woodzie site, that would be great. We could walk around and eyeball the upcoming Woodzie preperations. But either way, you just let us know.
    • MF : So is the Glenn-Zie song circle On like 6 to a pound Mexican prawn? Next Friday? :?:
    • John : I just talked to Ann/Mom and she sounds awful. Sounds like the flu. Take it easy and get better Mom!
    • Ann/mom : Glen it sound like a great time to me. Right now I'm just blowing my nose from an infection, but I promise to be good and not make that part of the music venue! Ya'll just let me know
    • Biggie G : Next Friday, the 27th, may be a good song circle night. It's good for me anyway... We can do it at my house around the firepit, no camping. Or maybe John will offer his gigantic backyard with optional, micro-woodzie camping. Lynne's Dad will be here to play dobro. I'm planning on using him that Saturday night for my Scenic Loop gig, so I need to get him warmed up.
    • John : Karen, we're glad to have you. It has always surprised me how many friends have connections to Hawaii. In late April there'll be a lot of info on The Woodzie and how to tune into the broadcast of it.
    • Karen/Hawaii : Okay, I talk too much, God bless and huggz to you Whipples.
    • Karen/Hawaii : Thanks for sharing and ya know...I ain't read even ten percent of your site yet, but I will. Man...seeing y'all sit around outside with the guitars brings back memories of Lake Austin and a ton of crazy, good cray of course cousins enjoying the ones talented enough to be pickin and grinnin. I bet y'all will be jammin, too.
    • Karen/Hawaii : I will try to remember May, or just peek in here often enough to be reminded.
    • Karen/Hawaii : John, y'all know how to live and do it TEXAS style! This is the coolest AND sweetest website I've found. JIMMIE SINGS?! wow, an artist and sings, well I do look forward to hearing & seeing her, JIMMIE you rock.
    • John : What a relief! I'm so glad you have that really good doctor who you can trust in. She's amazing, I have a lot of confidence in her.
    • Taylor Whipple : That's the best news ever Grandma!!!
    • Ann/mom : Mike, I will be there soon. I love singing in the circle, it is a lot of fun
    • Ann/mom : I found out today I am Cancer FREE
    • John : Yeah, when Jimmie comes to Riley's she's the only law east of the Pecos.
    • MF : Miss Ann, we all squeal for John, we just don't admit it. In fact when I squeal, I blame it on Brad..... 8O we could sure use your company to keep us all in line. Miss Jimmie does a pretty good job in your stead
    • Ann/mom : Brad, I was trying to say I just cannot believe anyone would say you squeal. Don't worry it's not true.
    • Ann/mom : Brad! I just cannot
    • John : Marvel wants to get out of printing comics and start doing it all in digital form online. «link» That's tragic.
    • John : here «link»
    • Lån Penge : Im Lån Penge - Where to get this shoutbox? Greets Lån Penge.. «link»
    • John : Karen, on May 2nd we're going to have our annual musical festival here and we'll stream video of it over the Internet. You'll be able to see and hear Jimmie and everybody sing. There'll be a post here with a link, just watch for it. Co-incidentally, Stephen Ingles, a slack key guitarist from Hawaii is coming to be a special performer. We have family and friends in England and Hong Kong and Singapore and Mexico and all over and Whippleworld readers who can't be here can tune in over the Internet and be a part of it!
    • Karen/Hawaii : Oh wow! When in grade school I lived at the corner of Guadalupe and Delafield Ln...for almsot ten years! It's so cool to see y'all playing in Austin. I miss Texas, a ton of family and friends, the rodeo time of year, everything about TEXAS. One of my nephews is on the rodeo committee this year and I hear having a grand time, and his young son is showing a hog. Okay, I'll hush. Glad I peeked in. Your site looks AWESOME, always and it's just the perfect place for a homesick, native
    • MF : we are all there to hear you...and Brad squeals like a little school girl when you do shrimp boat... I swear he actually blushes... I think it might be time for a Micro Woodzie!
    • John : I'm saying that in a one song each turn format, when somebody's suffering through me or Joe Bob "This Thing Was In Tune When I Bought It" Jones, they know it's only one song before they get to hear Mike Fletcher for a little relief. Glenn has to do the open mics the standard way because it's the way they work best - but I've been saying for years that we need to do some playing in the round every week. Another thing I like about it is that it features each song itself, I think they stand out better.
    • MF : so we are better in small doses eh? hmmm what are you trying to say there big guy
    • John : Song circles are my favorite. The variety keeps everybody's attention better. And the play along/sing along element lets everybody be involved the whole time. You'll notice now that more Americana artists are setting up whole shows and little tours around the song circle thing because it's entertaining. Both more entertaining to the players and to the audience. In our group it works good. We're what you'd have to call "spotty". Some of the spots like me are easier to enjoy in 3 minute doses.
    • MF : Too bad... I think the song circle thing in the pool room at Rileys is pretty damn cool. We should keep that going!
    • John : I don't think so Mike. I talked to my fishing buddies and it's looking like they're postponing my trip.
    • MF : John, is the coast on for Wednesday with Glenn?
    • John : Mike, that was a fun night last night at Riley's. The rest of us were doing good in the sing around thing but when Jimmie, Kelli and Brad get together it's like an instant choir. There's singing lead and that's a particular talent and then there's blending and they blend. When there's that strong core us other coyotes can howl and it still sounds good.
    • MF : cute picture of cowboy Jonah! Wheres his cap pistol?
    • Ann/mom : Evan, I was looking at you're uncle Russell's picture which was taken just before he & Marty got married & he wore it almost the same way as you do. Boy I sure do love you both. Happy Valentine's Day
    • Ann/mom : HAPPY VALENTINE'S
    • John : Like the Robert Johnson song, Pepé had Hell Hounds on his trail.
    • MF : ahhh...The ballad of Peppy' le Pew , what a bitter and pungent end, "what a smell the day ol' peppy fell....." :???:
    • John : Well the conclusion of the stinky story is R.I.P. Pepé Le Pew. «link» I have no idea what drama ensued during the night but the dogs deposited him at the foot of the steps this morning. Nobody could reach under the building to save him without getting sprayed; there was nothing to be done. He came into the yard looking for a girlfriend. In case you're not aware, it's skunk mating season - they're run over all up and down Farm to Market 1102 here. You've seen the cartoons, love makes you stupid.
    • John : That sounds like fun mother. Hope you got in some dancin'!
    • Tyler Archer : Happy Birthday Darwin!
    • Ann/mom : Son, I wrote a long message telling about "The Good Old Boys" being at Martinez tonight. I really didn't feel like going, but after talking to Deirdre I felt better. Of course I am so glad I went. I wish all the Riley guys & ya'll had been there. The Epps brothers were playing with them, and they had 3 singers that never missed a beat, one after the other. I don't compare anybody to the "Countrymen" only in saying they had an agenda & stuck to it. They sang songs I haven't heard in so lo
    • Jimmie : That is great music! Thanks!!
    • Guest_5847 : Love the website. Here's some music for you Texas musicians! «link» PS.. this isn't spam, I'm just a fan of Whippleworld.
    • John : I don't know why I think I have to report this, I guess for sympathy, but the skunk IS still alive and every couple of hours the dogs stick their heads under there to get a squirt kind of like a woman freshening up her Channel #5.
