The fearless Guadalupe frogmen made their attack on the peaceful balmy night’s calm with “THIS”!
IT was Awesome!

EXPLODO. what a great name. SUPER…. GIANT….JUMBO!!!
Those were 3 inch shells, the biggest they sell to the public. I’ve never launched or even known anybody to launch any that big. It was exciting to set them off, the highlight of a lifetime of popping fireworks. And this was the hardest year to find anything - they wouldn’t let fireworks stands sell a bottlerocket in Bexar or Comal counties. It’s common in the city but this is the first year I can remember countywide bans. UnAmerican and more importantly… unTexican. Dad and I found this monster way down on the other side of Floresville. With tax that nine shot mortar was $100. Thanks Bill and Linda Steagall for making that happen. If course ain’t nobody likes fireworks better than Bill.
Duct taping it to the seat of the canoe and rowing out into the middle of the river to launch against the reflective amphitheater of 40 foot cliffs was just cool. They went WAY up, twice as high as any we’ve done before, and they still lit up the surface of the river with bright color. It was a little scary because it shook the canoe violently each time one fired. My buddies gave me a plywood shield to hold in front of my face in case they went off like dynamite or tipped over and fired towards me. Seems like I remember the last thing they said was “If you get blowed up can we have your record collection?”.

Remember I have always said “Risk is Life. . . If you did not risk. . . .You did not live”
Of course you are suppose to return with all of your hands and feet and toes, eyes, ears and other useful appendages….by your own initiative.
Thus you get to be 71 years old. . . ..in good order.
