The blog is five years old

Including posts, comments and sidebar chat, there have been about 25,000 entries from more than a hundred contributors. There’s been millions of page hits but what’s cooler is that thousands of people have come back multiple times and read multiple pages. None of that is particularly unique but what is very rare is the large core we have - a long list of families across the country, close and distant friends and relatives, who have checked it almost every day for five years. There aren’t many larger or longer running family blogs. It’s been useful in keeping people in touch. You see a fraction of that part on the blog because so many more read than contribute but what’s shared here ends up in everybody’s conversations off the blog. It adds a lot to the general awareness of what’s going on and who’s doing what. Becomes a starting point in a conversations and gives us a little more sync than if we didn’t have it. People aren’t expecting much when they come, just some little something. And that’s what they get. A picture of a friend, niece, or dwarf eating hippo.
But still the best thing is that all of the posts and comments, 18,535 of them, are saved hopefully forever in the database. We had little hiccups during two short time periods, most notably in the first half of 2006 where we have the photos but the database links to them get messed up and have to be re-established, but we have a ton of great photos and little landmarks in a searchable time capsule form that document at least a little bit of family and friends’ going ons between 2003 to 2008. Five years is a long time, on both the human and computer side it’s nice that it’s held together.

Son, that was a wonderful reminder of family & friends really getting to know each other in the last five years. It is wonderful to see the pictures of my children & grandchildren and all the things we have done together, plus the wonderful extension of our family and to know who they belong to.
It is also great to be able to look at our loved ones that aren’t with us anymore, but to be able to see them with us and doing things with us !!! Anymore, just pictures aren’t the same.
I love the blog, and even though you aren’t looking for it, I say thanks to you

in my surfing I’ve never seen another website about a group of people like this. you see some little ones that people don’t update but this is elaborate. I’m surprised there’s no ads.
