He buys books with every dollar he can get his hands on. He and I are kicking off a project to collect hard covers, maybe it’ll be the seed that grows into a library he keeps forever. He truly appreciates suggestions - one of my favorite things about Evan is that, more than most people, he wants to know your opinions and why.
The hard covers we’re looking for right now are classic science fiction like Dune by Frank Herbert, Stranger In A Strange Land by Robert Heinlein, Foundation by Isaac Asimov and those kinds of titles. If you run across any classics for cheap at a garage sale pick them up for him. If you have any ideas about what should be included in a collection of the best of the best science fiction, or any other book really, then let him know. If not here then when you see him next suggest titles for his collection. He’ll love it.

Ender’s Game and Ender’s Shadow - Orson Scott Card- shadow may not be a classic yet but it will be eventually but Ender’s Game is taught in some of the public schools in San Antonio and I totally think its worth being added to the classic sci-fi library

Dandelion Wine - Ray Bradbury
Cat’s Cradle - Kurt Vonnegut
A Canticle for Liebowitz - Walter M. Miller
I suppose these are more fantasy in the broader genre definition of speculative fiction than specifically sci-fi, but they’re some of my favorites.
Tyler gave me Ender’s Game and I also really like Speaker for the Dead and Xenocide by Orson Scott Card. I think I’ve posted about those before.
Stephen Donaldson’s 9 book series, The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant - the Unbeliever, are classic alternate universe stories but I think his two-book series Mordant’s Need is actually my favorite.
If I have extras of any of these I’ll give them to you, Evan.
