Phil Collins and The Alamo? Whoda Thunk?

from The San Antonio Express-News:

Singer Phil Collins said his life now revolves around the Alamo.

Collins is in town, set to appear at local events commemorating the anniversary of the siege and battle of the Alamo. Though he’s mulling the idea of recording a tribute cover album of 1960s songs, he said he’s making the Alamo “my main thing” as a collector, history buff and possible author.

“Basically, now I’ve stopped being Phil Collins the singer. This has become what I do,” he said Monday, standing beside a 13-foot-by-15-foot model of the 1836 Alamo compound that will open to the public this week.

Collins, who is British, said he has “hundreds” of cannonballs, documents and other artifacts from the Alamo, possibly the

I sent out some invites to this thing. Hope you’ll give it a try. Like we’ve been discussing on the blog here for a couple of years, this remote computing concept will be the future of computing. This is a taste of it.

What it is is a free “cloud computer” service. Meaning a group of people can share the same desktop from a virtual computer on this company’s server. When the stuff isn’t stored on one person’s machine but out there in cyberspace they’ve taken to saying that then the data is “in the clouds”. The benefit is that a group can work on spreadsheets together at the same time like we’ve done with Google Docs, we can share MP3s and photos like we’ve done with ftp programs only this should be much easier. We can share a calendar like we’ve tried – but this may work because it does all those things only from a single interface. You’ll have to try it to see how it works and we’re still figuring it out but I think it might be really good. If nothing else I promise you’ll get some great MP3s out of it.
