1955 was a very good year!

We did not have anything better to compare it with and this was the beginning of music automation. These machines were wearing out millions of 45′s all over the nation. I know, I helped!

coolest video I’ve run across in a long time. I feel immense pride in each of those guys. That’s the old Casbeers, we’ve all shared the experience of those enchiladas. :)

* This is a very cool website where you can upload and download “off the beaten path” kind of songs. Put your demos up in hope of tapping into their community and making some fans. You’ll see that most songs have comments on them, people are using this site. Yes, it’s mostly electronic music but it’s open to any style; you just upload something and invite people to listen. Not much singer/songwriter stuff means less competition. Free accounts let you upload five songs a month which is more than you need. Soundcloud. And anything you find there can be put into a post using their nice little player. That’s how I embedded the Fastball song below. Super easy.

* A great website where you can download sheet music. Classical music is public domain and a bunch of it is here for free.

* FanDistro is another way to sell songs. What they claim is that you’re at a gig, you play a song and tell the audience that if they want to have that song on their MP3 capable cell phone right then, they can text a number on their phone and get it. You call out the number, those interested dial right then, pay 99 cents and it downloads. iTunes store for the rest of us. The other half of the service is an app for FaceBook where you send a message to your FaceBook friends asking them to let you put a a player/download deal in their sidebar and they will receive 20% of the money made from there. Get a couple of hundred people doing that for you and you could be getting thousands of exposures. May work, may not… but it’s a good idea. Cell phone texting and FaceBook, they’re covering the two hottest things right now.

* This image site called imgfave pulls images from flickr and a ton of other image sites and makes them really easy to browse through.

* This is a good article called “The Good Enough Revolution“. MP3′s don’t sound great, they sound good enough – but are easier – and that combo brought down the major label empire. It uses the Flip video camera, predator drones vs. F-16′s and other things as examples. Like Craig’s list doesn’t look great, it looks good enough. Is there a growing backlash to things being more and more complicated than they need to be?

* Wanna send somebody a big file super easy? An MP3 or a video file, something bigger than your email account will send? You upload it here, no loggin needed, and get an e-mailable link anybody can use to download it. Only stays there for 24 hours so you don’t have to worry about it lingering on a site somewhere. Very clean. it’s called s4ve.

Hope everyone in San Antone is enjoying this major cold front where temperatures are down to 97 degrees.

So… Spanish is hard to learn?

read these sentences and wonder how you know the alternative meaning and/or pronunciation of these identically spelled words. Are you seeing a peripheral overview ahead to know what the words mean in context? Do you know in real time by the word right in front of it? Whichever, wouldn’t it be best to have a word for everything? Were new words that hard to come up with that English had to recycle so many? Did cavemen have a focus group on the subject… “Fire will mean this new hot stuff we invented and also what we do to kick somebody out of his stockbroker job”.

1. The bandage was wound around the wound.

2. The farm was used to produce produce.

3. The dump was so full that it had to refuse more refuse.

4. We must polish the Polish furniture.

5. He could lead if he would get the lead out.

6. The soldier decided to desert his dessert in the desert.

7. Since there is no time like the present, he thought it was time to present the present.

Happiness – a buyer’s guide

August 29th, 2009 @ 10:11

This article made me think of Casey because she’s always loved having money but even more than that she loves to spend it on other people and fun experiences. And there are times when John and I were flush with cash and just ran through it having a very good time. I think back and wish we’d been more fiscally conservative, but we sure have some great memories. Now there is scientific research that backs up these actions. How can we buy the most with our money? Not necessarily by acquiring things.

Can money buy happiness? Since the invention of money, or nearly enough, people have been telling one another that it can’t. Philosophers and gurus, holy books and self-help manuals have all warned of the futility of equating material gain with true well-being.

He’ll be a Woodzie ambassador. He leaves in the morning for Black Rock City. He’s wanted to do it for years, several of us have wanted to do it for years… he’s just the first one to have the Huevos Rancheros to do it. He has to drive for a couple of days but we’ll be getting some photos and stories soon.
