- John : we're back from another nice trip to the Kerrville Music Festival. You guys should come up one year. Not so much to see the concert but to experience the campground song circles that go all night. It's like day after day after day of The Woodzie. Just incredible.

- John : I always try to share info on what happens to keep the blog running so you'll know when you run your own. We all benefit from a great WordPress spam filter that works in the background. Deirdre and several others will go in there and delete what sneaks through. In the years we've had the blog, over two million spam attempts have been made. It's caught almost all of them, it's like how almost 100% of meteorites burn up before they hit us.
- John : after getting back from our camping trip I found several calls and emails about this Chinese comment. Mike's right, it's just like getting a postcard from a travel agency. Junk mail. It's not surprising there's so much of it because it used to at least cost them a stamp to send an ad. In the digital world it's free. For them. For us, we have to take some time everyday to delete them.

- John : Things are surprisingly good on old Whippleworld. We're fighting the spam off as best we can. We went through six months there where it was particularly relentless. But it's gone in waves like that for seven or eight years now. Waves are just getting bigger when they come.

Probably in Corpus to be near Erica (who made perfect grades in HS and gets to go right into A&M). Like you advised with Taylor, we saved a ton of money compared to your first two years with him going to SAC. And he loved it, it was just what he needed.

- John : Looks like we're not going to be able to drive to see Renee and then onto California this summer after all. It's the boys; Evan's going to New Orleans with Matt and Taylor's job hunting and trying to get organized to start Texas State. Well, there's always next summer for that. This summer we're going to pick a little closer vacation for maybe four days. We can get on each others nerves and easily make it feel like two weeks.
- John : An audio engineer who worked for me went to Full Sail and it was wonderful for him. I think he may have recouped his tuition from that first job so I guess I've paid for one already. «link»

- John : We spent four days camping on the Ranch where they hold the Folk Festival. Had to soak in the tub forever last night to start feeling semi-clean again. Every week out there is some kind of weather issue, you just have to accept it. This past weekend it was a relentless dusty wind. We brought a pound or more of Kerrville home with us. Mostly in my nose and ears. Some between my toes.
- John : we're getting a much later start than planned but we're headed to Kerrville right now to see the very, very beginning of the Kerrville Folk Festival. It's a week before the actual start but tonight is the "land rush" tailgate party. I don't think our cell phones work at Pleasant Valley Ranch but we'll be back by Monday. See ya!

- John : So.... the answer finally came today from Weldon Whipple. We aren't related at all to the William Whipple who signed the Declaration of Independence. That was more than 200 years of misinformation. Both lines of Whipples were some of America's very earliest settlers coming here in the 1600's around the time of the Mayflower and both sides later played very important roles in the American Revolution. Our guy Abraham fired the first shot of the war, their guy signed the Delaration.

- Steve : Facebook is chatter like texting or chatting (neither of which I care for). A good blog is like a good magazine. I've been coming for many years, too, and I always find content I like. Play them, use Facebook to funnel people over here but don't worry about Whippleworld, it's awesome!!!
- John : I appreciate you saying that. It's always been for every thousand Whippleworld readers maybe one will actually stop and make a comment. Now the competition from Facebook has brought that percentage down even further. And you're right, readership has actually gone up from linking posts here to Facebook. But everything is chasing FB's tail now.
- Nancy : I've been looking at Whippleworld on and off for years. There are lots of family blogs trying to stay relevant under pressure from FB and Twitter. I say lots of family blogs but I've never seen one as active as this one. Have you? I don't see that FB is slowing you down that much. As a matter of fact I often come here from your Facebook posts so maybe it helps some already.
- John : This blog's 8 years old with over 30,000 entries, each post with it's own URL - that's a blog so old and so big that it kinda has a life of it's own. We're bookmarked by tens of thousands of people, about half outside the U.S. We've always had tons of readers, just never tons of contributors. I guess we should learn ways to use it and Facebook together.

- John : that's confusing - I typed as I was rushing out of the house. Look at the «link» There's some setup and tear down days but it boils down to 18 days of actual festival. For $575 a person can buy a couples pass which is 36 daily wristbadges; 2 for each day, one for each person in the couple. BUT.. if 2 couples or 4 people split the 18 days into 9 days, a more manageable time to be gone, it's $575 divided by 4 = $143.75. What's that, $15 a day? Brings it into the realm of possibilty.
- John : Anybody want to go in on two complete festival passes to Kerrville this year? It's $550 for two. What you get is a wristband for every day and the word is you can divy them up to get the least expensive per day tickets. Math isn't a hippie strong suit. We don't want to be there the whole month but I'm thinking maybe there might be another couple who'd like to split up the weeks and end up paying $275 for two people to be there up to 10 days.

No sugar, or bread or any of the things you know make you fat. - John : that occupies the spot on the spectrum of healthy foods at the far end from a big bowl of Captain Crunch.
- Jimmie : For breakfast I had 3 diced hard-boiled eggs, mixed with 1/2 cup lentils, some crumbled bacon and topped with a bit of Vidalia onion salad dressing. All on a giant bed of spinach. (Okay I actually eat the first part with a spoon and shove the copious amounts of baby spinach leaves into my mouth by hand, but you get the picture). And that's what I eat first thing every morning, now.
- John : Jimmie and I are doing good on our "slow carb" diet. We're eating super healthy. Except on Saturday, on Saturday we can eat cookies and ice cream. One day off and six days on... it gets the weight loss job done without the mentail anguish of having to give up treats that you like. Having Saturday as our cheat day makes it feel like food Christmas. The rest of the week we eat a lot of chicken, beef, eggs, lentils and spinach. All very slow burning food.

Because we don't have that safety net, we'll have to go old school and just make sure it doesn't.

If you sell the single (or whatever the best song on your record is) for 99 cents it very well may be you would make more money offering the entire record for $2.00. With one or two caveats like if you have covers on there you have to pay royalties on. But $2.00 minimum on a pay what you can afford deal might be a great thing.
- Art : Put your stuff on all of those sites, what can it hurt? But don't spend the money yet, nobody I know is making more than a few dollars here and there.

- John : We're back from the desert. Jimmie and I found out that a long weekend in Terlingua is about all the bone dry, flat, treeless terrain we can take. We started getting lizardlike scales and flicking our tongues out to catch bugs. We tore out right after the festival ended and spent all day Monday on the river. By the end of a day in Concan soaking in the Frio we were normal again.

I’m glad I put that one up… I can see how he plays that progression. Girl From The North Country and Spanish Boots Of Spanish Leather are extremely similar – they’re either the same chords or very close. Jimmie and I do Boots of Spanish Leather but I’ve just been playing hit or miss chords. What he’s playing here, the right progression that I can see clearly, is going to sound much better.

man, we got a spike of traffic from http://expectingrain.com/ More than 1,500 separate, unique visitors hit the post on Dylan yesterday alone and most of it was from a link they were kind enough to put on their site.
It’s a great webpage. Seems to aggregate content on sites across the Internet pertaining to Bob Dylan. We just got submitted as a one line link on there and boom, an explosion of new traffic.
