1948 was a major turning point for Dad. He turned 42 down on the farm. He built the “studio” on the highest point of the skyline that could be seen from Highway #181 headed South from almost Karnes City.
Kenedy was a growing and thriving community, but just like everyone else combined with inflation from the cost of World War two and the drought that lasted for seven years, Dad, left for higher ground and a job in the city. He found work in San Antonio with
Claude B. Aniol who owned a large advertising agency in the Transit Tower, on Naverro and La Vita and bought a unfinished house in Woodlawn Hills 243 Oak Knoll and lived there till 1953. The longest 5 years I’ll ever remember.
His Mother “Sabra” died that year and also my grandfather “Levi.” I think I grew up that year. I missed my Grandmother and Grandfather but, not as much as I do today. And my Mon and Dad the same way.
My dad rebuilt his childhood home and old family homestead with his same dependable old magic artistic one arm capability. I often wondered if he had not had his polio handicap would he ever had been as good and successful.
In 1953 He changed jobs again went to work for Cusick, Swerke and Wild Advertising housed in the entire 2nd floor of the Farm and Home building. He had become 52 in 1958 and another 5 years had passed
Along the way I had no way to pace my life and his life progress except for my own and mine was not finished nor is it yet, but, this special awareness in our lives and viewing the parallel and time and is new and interesting to me. Much more than it ever was before!
There becomes a point when the father and the son becomes the same and you will have no need for a Social Security number!
