Another “Mother Adventure”

July 8th, 2011 @ 01:16

As I tell these adventure stories about my Mother now that I have matched up the time connection between my lifetime and her lifetime another reality appears in our likeness.

I am surprised I have so many of them to remember. Seems like out of the clear blue sky she would call and invite me to meet her at old treasured spots that were hers since her high school days. She could always tell a good story which explained it somewhat. Noting changes of this and that over the last 40 years. At that time I did not realize I would be doing the same things in the same places.

Kress’s 5 and Dime downstairs diner on Houston Street is a good example. She had invited me to lunch and

So you want to be an auctioneer!

I begin going to auctions in about 1957. I never learned the auctioneer chant, but, I did learn the auction selling process. In rare instances I stepped in as a ring man or ticket handler. My main job was buying cars to sell at the auction and representing the seller. I did the artwork in the advertising and sales sheets mailers and even handled repair to the sound systems. Nothing really important but I knew all the people at

Interesting Fact!

I bought a 1965 Corvette Sting Ray California model with both tops and 465 cubic inch engine. It was the best there was and quick as a wink. It was originally white with red leather gut. I bought it at the Tex Mex Auto Auction for a whopping $600. I first saw it on a flat bed truck that had gotten to the auction sale late in the evening and instead of unloading it and bringing it through the ring they left it on the truck which the driver had claimed he had had trouble loading it and it would not clear the ramp and the

Why do we get pruney in the water?

I always told my kids the skin absorbs water, but as usual MOM WAS WRONG! The skin does not wrinkle if a particular nerve is cut. Thus, it is an adaptation that gives us better grip on wet surfaces. HA! Brain, Behavior and Evolution.

Let a good song save you

If it sounds good it is “UK” with me!

The British always seem to want to attach “son” to the ending of their surname. I’m sure in some manor it connects lives of fathers and sons on a more formal path in their legacy. I recently found a genuine songster (Born 1945 about 7 years younger I,) by the name of Van Morrison. What got my thing swung in that direction was the famous Jim Morrison. I was trying to get a link between the stars named Morrison when I remembered another Morrison right here in San Antonio and as a natural singer he was great! He would be about my same age and capable of singing any thing he heard for the first time. He sounded good without any accompaniment. We were attending a 3 day spiritual camp out in Hunt Texas YMCA camp grounds. There were 4 persons to a cabin and Morrison (I can’t remember his first name.) He sang any request up until the early hours. Funny how I can remember things like that. To this day I never met anyone that could do what he did. These Morrison names must somehow be connected. What do you think? My search led me to personal philosophy. They certainly thought alike.
