were Granny to see this

she’d insist we go. Right? She’d put Jimmie’s hand in mine and push us out the door. It’s a 120 mile string of birding centers along the Texas/Mexico border.

This is why we see so many birds here. Jimmie has pulled the car over to jump out and watch a flock of Whooping Cranes, one of the world’s rarest birds, flying over Gruene. We’re just north of the world’s most magic bird highway intersection as shown in this dandy graphic.

I always see something interesting when I’m in the Valley: Caracaras everywhere, different cranes and egrets in the resacas in Brownsville, flocks of what I’ve been assured are green parakeets in McAllen and Harlingen -and all kinds of things on SPI.
