I dimly recall seeing this photo on Whippleworld in the past It was possibly a different print and more legible. Or maybe it is just my glaucoma.

The camera that took the picture in the last post was probably Kodak Model #3. It was the “Kiss” (Keep It Simple Stupid) “camera of the year”.
If you note the picture was taken from the West with the sun lighting the subject.

Charlie, you are right in remembering seeing this photo on Whippleworld. It appeared in a post by John Sr. which I brought up while looking at past postings. It is entitled: “Inflation!!!!505 Rigsby 1904….Not the same model….but close! It appeared on Feb. 13, 2007, in comment No. 10 by John Jr. There were many long comments, 18 in all.

I thought I recognized Aunt Mable and Uncle Charlie Kovar, so I e-mailed the picture to our cousin Virginia Latham in California to see if she could identify the persons in the picture. She could identify some, and I questioned her on thinking that Peggy was Gladys. She said that after all she was wrong on that, and that it was Peggy holding Jill.

This is my take on the identies of the persons in the photo, which was probably taken sometime in 1935: From the left: Mary Callie Edwards, Dorothy Bell Whipple, Howard Russell Whipple, Alice Whipple, ____, ____, Mable Louise Kovar holding Sabra Charlene Kovar, Charlie Kovar, Peggy Whipple holding Phyllis Jill Whipple, Virginia Lillian Kovar, Susan Sabra Saunders Whipple. Children in front, from left: Kenneth Manning Kovar, ____, ____.

As to who Gladys was, she was first cousin to all of Sabra’s children. The story is told that John Henry and Callie had 12 children but raised 13. Their 2nd child, Sabra’s sister Virginia Alice Saunders married Isaac Newton Davis, but died a month or so after her first child was born. That child was Gladys Lucille Davis, who was raised by John Henry and Callie.
Small world that this is, my brother and I later were fraternity brothers at UT Austin with her son, our 2nd cousin John David Parr.
