Just Say No To New Year’s Resolutions !!!

December 27th, 2010 @ 17:11
Posted by: Casey

Every year after the holidays millions of American make New Year’s Resolutions. Now I am no scientist, but if I were to estimate I would say that 95% of resolutions fail. Also, I would guess that 95% of people make the same resolution every year. I am done with New Years Resolutions and I think maybe we should all be done with them. Over the next month millions of Americans will spend billions on gym memberships, diet foods, exercise equipment, stop smoking aids, info mercial gimmicks, self help books, etc. etc. etc. The only people who win are the people selling the stuff.

Change is not going to happen over night. Change doesn’t come once a year in a spurt of national motivation. Change happens every day any day of the year. Change is deciding on this random Tuesday that I will work out that I will eat healthy. Change is making new habits slowly over time.

So I say to all my loved ones about to start their 50th new fad diet – Don’t Do It. Stop and think about your life. Think about how many times you have tried and failed. Maybe its a sign. You know they say the definaition of stupidity is to try the same thing over and and over expecting a different outcome. So stop trying the same things over and over that don’t work and figure out what does work. I will almost gaurantee you it isn’t a fad diet or it isn’t a gimmick on tv. If there were a magic diet or a magic pill or machine that worked then we would all be skinny. But, we aren’t – are we? It’s not about what you do one month out of the year it is about what you do 365 days a year. If you take in more calories on average that you burn you will gain weight. So figure out a way to make small sustainable changes over the whole of the year instead of trying to fix it all one month out of the year. Remember change is a process and slow change is the best change. Good luck to you all!

Time Machine

August 30th, 2010 @ 14:42

Last night I went and played at Rileys. I had a wonderful time playing and listening to my parents and my brother play. My dad has this new song called the Time Machine. I must admit it had me crying like some kind of Hallmark commercial. In the song he talks about coming to a moment in his life where he woke up and realized the only thing that could help him now would be a time machine. See there had been a few bad years that had gone by. A lot of very important people in his life had died and it seemed like the world just stopped turning for a few years. In the song he details how he realized that you can’t buy a time machine you have to build one. And as he talks it become clear that he isn’t talking about a time machine to go back in time, because that of course could never exist. See this time machine goes forward. In this time machine you get to keep moving forward and start making better choices. That is exactly how life is. We all have those moments where we wish we could go back in time and make different choices. But the difference is realizing that to simply have that wish to go back and change what cannot be undone is the catalyst that propels us into a better future. We can’t get back wasted years but we can create better years. We can fight for the people we love. We can choose to be happy when life gives us things that seem so unfair. We can dream new dreams and work towards making them a reality. I truly believe any amount of wasted time can be made up for with more meaningful time. It is not the amount of time we are given in life that matters, it is what we do with time. I am a strong believer in quality over quantity. It is never too late. There is no expiration date on happiness or love. It is simply up to the individual to nurture that love and create that happiness. Any time. No time machine needed.

When Do We Choose To Be Happy ?

What is the secret to happiness? Is it money? Is it love? Is it adventure? I think the secret to happiness it choosing to be happy no matter what you have or life gives you. Case in point. I can remember back so many times, when I was younger and man do I ever wish I was as thin as I was when I thought I was fat. Picture a size 4 128 lb girl 20 years old buying slim fast at the grocery store. I remember this lady behind me took it upon herself to tell me that I didn’t need to diet that I looked great. I can remember appreciating the compliment, but of course I still bought the

Change

There really isn’t anything special about turning 27, but for whatever reason I have decided this will be my year of change. There really isn’t one particular thing I want to change, but rather I see change as an all encompassing

So I get my Sprint bill which is normally 83 bucks a month and it is a whopping 203. Now yes I got 2 new phones w/ 20 a pop upgrade charges (stupidest charge ever!) and yes I downloaded 2 games , so I was expecting my bill to go up. Regardless I call Sprint (who is notorious for bad customer service) and by the time my hour phone call was over my bill is now $33. Yes $33. How ? I never raised my voice once,in fact I was extremely friendly and polite the whole time, I was simply persistent. I told them I don’t agree with the 20 upgrade fees I want them removed. You’re not the first person and you won’t be the last person who asks for this, so when they give you their rehearsed speel about the charge and why everyone gets it you just say , no I want it removed and whalla done. Then next was dealing with the 61 in data charges for downloading 2 games …. signed me up for a data plan and removed the charges. And then lastly for recently renewing my contract 3 weeks ago I got a $100 discount. On top of all that starting with my next bill I will be getting a 23% discount for working at USAA. I think I get it from my dad, but you’ve got to believe if you want something you can talk someone into anything!

Funny/Witty Words

I found the following on this guy I went to high shcool with his face book page. I read it and thought it was really good stuff.

I’m James. Here’s what I’ve figured out thus far in life:
- Every human has the ability to make their life and the lives around them better or worse simply by their choice of facial expressions.
- While puppies and kittens are for the most part all adorable, a greater percentage of dogs maintain their adorableness over time, and thus are the better investment (plus they love you more…go ahead and ask them).

House of the Crypt

Sean and I were viewing houses with our realtor on Saturday. We had seen this house listed online and were really looking forward to looking at the inside. Now, we knew that the house was occupied by a tenant, but that was all. We had tried once before to look at it about a month ago but the people wouldn’t let us in even though we had an appointment. This time we made it in. I almost wish we hadn’t. Turnes out the tenant was running a hospice inside. There were elderly people curled up in the fetal possition on hospital beds 2-3 to a room. I guess they were just lying there waiting to die. There was a lady (presumibly the rentor) and a nurse. It was sooooo creepy. We couldn’t get out of there fast enough! Can you imagine living in a house that used to be a hospice???

Bad Customer Service

So, about 3 months ago Sean signed up for the Sunday paper to be delivered from the Express News for $6 month. You really don’t save anything off the normal price of the paper, but hey, someone brings it to you. Or not. We got charged for 3 months in a row and only got the paper 2x. Finally today I call, because lord knows Sean isn’t going to. It was crazy, there was no “I’m sorry” – “would you like a refund” nada – all the lady said was “I’ll get with the carrier to see about fixing the delivery problem” She even had the nerve to say to me “why didn’t you call earlier?” So I just paid $18 for 2 newspapers. At usaa we would never let that fly. No wonder they are on the verge of major financial problems!
