Plug in words, pick your font, etc, and Wordle will generate word art like this, the lyrics to You Are My Sunshine. The more often a word is mentioned, the larger it is, so it works well with song lyrics.
Daniel and I went to see Slaid at Casbeers last week. Took some pics and videos, including an unreleased song. He says he should have an album out sometime this year.
Casbeers has some big news — they’re opening a second location that will be a music venue, with the original location turning into a just-lunch spot. Their new location is pretty sweet, the old Alamo Methodist Church on South Alamo in King William. Here’s the scoop from Steve’s email:

We are excited and pleased to announce that we are opening a second location. Casbeers at the Church. It will be located at 1150 South Alamo in the historic King William District. It was originally built in 1912 as The Alamo Methodist Church and has recently been used as a dinner theatre under the Alamo Street Theatre and The Church Bistro and Theatre names. We will continue to operate the Blanco Road location Tues-Fri for lunch only. No dinners and no live music. Casbeers at the Church will be open Mon-Sat for lunch and dinner and we will present all live music at this location. There will be a stage and seating for about 80 downstairs and also a beautiful patio area. Upstairs in “The Church” will be a 160 seat theatre where we will present live performances in a concert style setting. Food will be served downstairs only and we plan to have a full bar. We will offer the same menu we now serve with some additions including daily plate lunch specials. We hope you are as excited about our new project as we are. We will announce more details and opening date soon.
For our last open mic of the year, we’re having a blowout at Riley’s Tavern — we’ll have the 6-piece band and free food (our own little mini chili cookoff).
To quote Glenn, “It’s all free, and it’s well worth the price!” Hope you can join us!
“An actual book of fake knowledge available wherever actual books are sold.”
This Slashdot review explains it better than I could.
Took me long enough to actually post on the “new” blog, no?
I apologize for my absence. A couple of gig-heavy months, then a couple of work-heavy months. The holidays are feeling like a break in comparison.
Here, I need to try posting a picture. Does anyone else dig Halloween as much as I do? I have to admit that everything I’m wearing (except the glasses) I already had in my closet.

Okee dokee, thanks for indulging me, folks.
Joe Barfield started a blog to help keep track of volunteer and donation information in San Antonio.
On that note, we found a family that we’re going to put up. They’ll be with us in a couple of days – I’m getting the rooms ready, Chris is out of town. They’re in San Antonio already, staying with a
cousin. They’re OK, but really crammed in – 14 people in a 2 bedroom house. We’ll let you know how it goes.
Pretty funny…. The History page and How It Works was cracking me up.
…can a ukulele player be a total rock star. But maybe that’ll change soon.
This kid, Jake Shimabukuru, is amazing on the uke. I got to do a show with his band on Maui once.
He was featured on NPR’s The World today because he’s touring with Jimmy Buffet. There are sound clips on the web site.
Chris did a live recording of Rachel and Niko Laven on Sunday at the Cove. The kids, their dad on bass, Gil and his son on percussion/drums, Jana singing harmonies, and a whole bunch of special guests. Here are a couple samples of the rough mixes – it came out great.
Taco Land owner fatally shot

The owner of Taco Land, a landmark San Antonio night club once immortalized in song, was fatally shot at the bar around 1:21 this morning in an incident that sent two other people to the hospital in critical condition, police said.
Ramiro Albert Ayala, 72, was pronounced dead at 2:25 a.m., according to the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office. Ayala is listed as the bar’s owner, the medical examiner said.
Details of the shooting were sketchy, but San Antonio Police Department Sgt. Matt Podwika said two men were inside the bar when words were exchanged and at least one of the men opened fire.
‘We don’t know exactly what was said between (the victims) and the suspects,’ he said.
Ayala was taken to Brooke Army Medical Center with a wound to the left side of the chest. A 40-year-old woman who was shot in her abdomen, and a 54-year-old man shot in the side, were taken to University Hospital, according to Podwika.
It appears the two suspects fled in an unknown vehicle with the money in the bar’s cash register, the sergeant said.
A Dec. 12, 2000, article in the San Antonio Express-News said Ayala opened his business, at 103 W. Grayson, in 1965, selling food to workers from the soda bottling plants that once operated in the area. He turned the business into a bar in 1969.”
