This is certainly Art For The Day. We all wanted to go see Townes Van Zandt, this is the guy Townes Van Zandt wanted to go see. A little finger picking was going around at Riley’s last night, Casey’s been practicing her guitar lately and was listening for who was strumming and who was finger picking. This is a great example of finger picking, a GREAT song with closeup video to see what he’s doing; really good but not so crazy that you couldn’t learn it. Relax…. it’s not flamingo, it’s just two fingers.

He buys books with every dollar he can get his hands on. He and I are kicking off a project to collect hard covers, maybe it’ll be the seed that grows into a library he keeps forever. He truly appreciates suggestions - one of my favorite things about Evan is that, more than most people, he wants to know your opinions and why.

The hard covers we’re looking for right now are classic science fiction like Dune by Frank Herbert, Stranger In A Strange Land by Robert Heinlein, Foundation by Isaac Asimov and those kinds of titles. If you run across any classics for cheap at a garage sale pick them up for him. If you have any ideas about what should be included in a collection of the best of the best science fiction, or any other book really, then let him know. If not here then when you see him next suggest titles for his collection. He’ll love it.

Evan took this picture yesterday. You can tell it’s a hot summer day when Loretta spends so much time relaxing in the pool. Whenever she feels like it she jumps in, climbs up on her float and the water carries her around in laps. She takes long floats five or six times a day. The other dogs would never dream of doing it, they think she’s crazy. Sometimes she’ll be playing with the other two Shepherds and use up all her energy running and chasing and being the aggressor and then when they start to get the upper hand she’ll run right into the pool and laugh at them. We’ve had great dogs in the family before I’ve never known another Shepherd as funny as her.

is the software that runs the blog - they also just had their 5th Anniversary and celebrated by releasing this new version 2.6. I was talking to Renee on the phone this morning and I think we might want to use Whippleworld’s 5th as a reason to update to it - we’re almost two years or about four or five versions behind. One reason we haven’t updated is because the Postie plugin that lets everybody email directly onto the blog is really old and may not work with new versions. But there’s some of the benefits of the fancy new Wordpress as shown in the video above to consider. I think the biggest changes were in 2.5 and this video doesn’t show those. By upgrading we would get all the benefits of the last four upgrades all at once. The big thing is that they’re suppose to make the site load a whole lot faster and make posting a whole lot easier. Which would both be nice.
